Welcome bagpuss72. May we safely assume you are a 39 year old fan of the sad old cloth cat, you live in Wigan and is looking to get into barks?

Welcome aboard. It looks like you'll fit in rart proper in these parts.

I'm a Salford lad so not too far away.

Tsk! Southerners eh? 🙄

Its a large steak pudding Fred.
Though the word steak is often used figuratively. And its not a 'pudding' in the traditional sense

All clear?

You substitute it for mushy peas. Silly!

mushy peas ,wet may mean gravy or with the juice from the peas wrapped to take out

Pea wet ("pey wet" to the more broad) is the juice from the peas, without the peas themselves.
The rest is a steak pudding, to go.
Goes well with a smack. A smack being a potato scallop to the more northerly challenged folk.

If it's any consolation, pimpmaestro, I struggle with all these northernisms still. And I've been beyond the watford gap services for 15 years now.

However, given as I'm moving towards "wiggin" shortly, I've decided to try to expand my knowledge of loacal vernacular so that I don't find myself attacked with a cotton bobbin the minute I step foot in Lancashire.

I do wish these people would learn to speak with at least a little RP.

I have never EVER put Greater Manchester on my address at any of the places I hate it as do most of the people from Wigan Bolton & Bury.

The county is Lancashire....

I know its says some of them are now GM but we didn't go with it.... rebels

Where abouts?

Other side of the M6. Parbold way. It's as close as any person would want to get to the great metropolis of pies.

I'm sure I've been asked by a girl in a bar to give her some batter pudding before now. Perhaps she didn't mean what I thought she did... 😯

I still don't get the chips/gravy thing.

Where do you put your ketchup?

Or indeed the mayo... ❓

I shall be riding to Irlam via said 'ills a few times a week once we move.

There might be the odd occasion I stop off to test how the Wiggin Tree's gone downhill, etc.... before trying to set off the speed camera on my way down to Parbold.

Theres some good riding between Bury and Ramsbottom
and up around Nangreaves too

you'd possibly need someone to show you round

I think Harry the spider and terrahawk are from that area

before trying to set off the speed camera on my way down to Parbold.

It seems to work intermittantly. I can set it off reliably most of the time but as soon as I fit a camera to me it stays steadfastly off.

Derren, Hindley Green, Parbold, Ramsbottom, Nangreaves; please tell me these mystical places exist outside of the fevered imaginations of Northerners. 😯

Help me Believe.

Mayo on sausage butties....?

This is true. It is Wrong.
