"Tens of thousands who could never afford to own, feed and stable a horse, had by this bright invention enjoyed the swiftness of motion which is perhaps the most fascinating feature of material life" ~ Frances Willard, How I Learned to Ride the Bicycle

I'm allergic to horses so thought getting a Specialized Saffire would need less food, produce less s**t, it turns out I'm ok at it but VERY unfit and wondered what places there were with SOME smaller inclines round East Lancs that would stop me ended up in A&E

Ta!

Get a bicycle. You will not regret it if you live. - Mark Twain

Loads of places. Gisburn, Lee Quarry, Waterdale and surrounding area. Or just find some bridleways and go.

get an OS map of your area and use a highlighter pen to plot a route that keeps the contour lines as far apart as possible...

Welcome to the last place on Earth visited by the sane!

With a nick like that you expect niceness? Jesus wept...
As a woman, will you contribute to our threads about Passat/Octavia/Legacy, shaving razors, coffee, helmets (oi, stop it there at the back!), Apple apps and iTune problems?

what he said but it is a tad steeper over that East lancs way IMHO
You can go to Darwen or Rivvy for slightly more hilly Moors/natural Bridleway stuff
Roley Moor + Crag Quarry over your way as well as is MTL - bit long for a noob
Gisburn is a lot less hilly than Lee Quarry and a bit longer for gentle stuff if you dont object to Trail Centres

You can e-mail me if you want to rid e/guidanc eover Rivvy/Darwen way but possibly a bit of a Trek depending on where in East Lancs you are

er... If you are who I think you are, for god sake dont ask Adam. He'll get you lost at the end of a drive. If your not, then sorry 😳 and welcome to the forum.

Loads of riders from your neck of the woods here, who will only be too happy to show you some routes... lots of girls too.

Hmm, interesting that hoards of eligible bachelors have not yet descended on this thread and offered to guide a lady in need around the area.

Some obsevations spring to mind:
1. It's early days yet.
2. Beware of men offering to 'show you around' when, in fact, they couldn't accurately place Lancashire on a map.
3. There are no women on the internet 😉

EDIT: appears I was too slow, Junkyard is already in there! 😆

Greetings from Accrington.

How gentle do you need? There's always the canal towpath, OH and I put in a few miles there now and again just to keep rubberside-down. There's a few nice runs round the bottom of Darwen tower too, I'll dig out Google Maps when I've got five minutes to rub together.

Welcome to the forum. Great thread so far.
I say embrace the hills. You miss them when you don't have them. What idiot decided to take up mountain biking as a hobby in East Anglia......oh, that's right, Me.

Welcome. Are you a real live lady? They're quite rare in these parts.

If you'd like some nice Darwen and area routes then e mail me and I'll send you some that are manageable without going 'hmm, so that's what the Winter Hill masts look like close up.' whilst trying not to be unwell on your crossbar.

Nah! You just have to spout a lot of nonsense and spend an inordinate amount of money on shiney things. The more niche, the better. Oh.... and you have to abuse Hora.

You'll soon get the hang of it. Welcome aboard

canals are ok [ but it makes you soft obviously - or sweet seing cougar does it with his OH and then wishes he had been for a proper ride afterwards *]but really you need to decide which tyre and obviously go tubeless for the thorns.
* that is not a euphamism I hated riding with the OH 8 miles at v slow pace and she thought that was a proper ride

Its a large steak pudding Fred.
Though the word steak is often used figuratively. And its not a 'pudding' in the traditional sense

Pea wet ("pey wet" to the more broad) is the juice from the peas, without the peas themselves.
The rest is a steak pudding, to go.
Goes well with a smack. A smack being a potato scallop to the more northerly challenged folk.

If it's any consolation, pimpmaestro, I struggle with all these northernisms still. And I've been beyond the watford gap services for 15 years now.

However, given as I'm moving towards "wiggin" shortly, I've decided to try to expand my knowledge of loacal vernacular so that I don't find myself attacked with a cotton bobbin the minute I step foot in Lancashire.

I do wish these people would learn to speak with at least a little RP.

The county is Lancashire....
