So after Terry's passing Dave needs a pal and she's coming on Tuesday (hopefully) but we're in the Scottish Borders land of the glottal stop. So Dottie (name now) becomes Do'ee.

So suggestions? Mrs 100th has been saying names at me for days non of which work imho.

Lovely lucky pooch. The spitting image of my friend’s beloved spaniel who sadly and unexpectedly passed last week. She was named ‘Phoebe’.

Serious answer: Why rename at all? She'll get used to it.

(Unserious answer, learn to talk properly.)

She looks like a Meg to me. Short and sweet and easy to call.

I'm not sure standing in the park shouting for fanny will suit Mrs 100th 😀

Cougar the glottal stop doesn't sound good. An I'm Edinburgh born lived in Hampshire for a while so although a definite Scots accent it's about a "right" as you'll get. 🧐

Not sure if these are transferable as were developed specifically for cats

Nicely topical for Valentine’s Day though.

Doesn’t matter, it’s a springer - as soon as you let her of the lead she’ll be off whatever you shout...

I'm hoping she and Dave get the same scent. He's part pointer so hearing doesn't work when the nose does.

I'm not sure how to quote somebody else's comment, other than cutting and pasting, but I second this one.

Ahh missed that bit - two dogs called Dave might not work then.

In which case, Chas is the obvious choice.

Why rename at all?

Good practice just on the off-chance that the intonation of the name induces a previously learned bad behaviour. The previous Dalmatian was Harper when he came to us and was renamed Huxley as he had a biting problem (humans, dogs, fluffy animals, poultry. . .)

It helps make the dog more 'yours'.

Daniel the Spaniel
Shark (for shouting at the beach)
Myface (for shouting everywhere else, as in "come on...."

The dog's a nutter, but he's got a great name.
