What are ppl wearing? General messing around/all day footwear, not safety but not something you'd not be scared of getting muddy in.
Used some Karrimor, Hi-tech and Regatta over the last few year but they wear out quickly & don't tend to be properly waterproof

Spent an hour in Go Outdoor yesterday, and left almost more confused than I went in.. do like the look of some Brasher hillwalker ii gtx, but I really don't need a proper walking boot.

Still searching I went to Cat's, as I've had them before (liked them) and found that Barrata sell a (non-work) version of the Grouser, which doesn't have the huge branding that the likes of the Colorado's do, which look good.

Idea's?

trezeta all purpose trail type shoes / light boots, reasonably hard wearing (unlike my Merrells) and comfy, decent price in Cotswold not Camping.

Depends entirely on fit. Don't get bogged down with features and stuff.

I always pick a light Salomon boot, because they always fit me really well. I have narrow heels so heel lift is a problem in most shoes and boots except for Salomon.

TBH the only feature I really want in a decent sole that grips but won't wear away in 2 minutes. Though being waterproof is a given, but doesn't need to be Goretex

Soloman are getting a lot of love but are really at the top end "+ some" of my miserly budget 😀

Get what fits. More important than anything.

+1.

That's my reason for buying Soloman.

I invested in some of these Sole footbeds made a massive difference for me and I have moved them from boot to boot. They last for ages.

I've used the Leather Karrimor hiking boots for a few years.
The decent ones with the Vibram sole.

Last ok (2 years usually), find the lining fails after a while around the cuff.
Wear well.
Wide & comfy.

That's what sales are for. Never paid full price.

fit has never been an issue for me, I just need size 10... and I'm not finding Soloman's (Conquest GTX) reduced much - unless I want that nasty grey colour 😉
I'm a fan of the superfeet insoles Winston
I'll pay the money if I need to, just have bike bits I want too!

I've got some Brasher Goretex boots that seem pretty comfy, furthest I've walked in them is 17 miles and I dint get ne blisters.

Get yourself to Ulverston market on a Saturday and you'll get a pair for about 65 quid

Bargain!
Trouble is the 400m mile round trip might not making it so much so 😯

I've got the older version of those Brasher Hillwalkers, I think I've had them for about 14 years and they're still going strong. Admittedly they don't get the kind of use they once did but I reckon I've put a good few 1000 miles on them.

I tend to just wear trainers for day to day stuff but if I take the kids out in the woods or something on rainy days I always use these, they're still warm, waterproof, and have lots of tread left. I think the rubber on the sole might have hardened a bit though as they don't seem as grippy as they used to.

Edit: Forgot to mention I've done lots of multi-day trips in all sorts of weathers and never had any issues with them (blisters etc)

Well just been down to the local Go Outdoors (Kiddy) again and Brent who I will name check for being so bloody helpful, had about 6 pairs of boots out for me to try. Without a doubt the Salomon's are instantly the most comfortable boots I've tried, never had that before, always had to 'wear' boots in. Tried some Berghaus and even a memory foam Mammut Mercury Advanced GT along side the Quest, comets, Ultra's and want the Salomon's Comets (had wanted the Contour's but they don't stock them). Unfortunately and embarrassingly they didn't stock the colour I wanted, so even with price matching & discount I didn't buy them - hence the small name check. Found them online for a lot less than retail, so happy days.
Cheers for the suggestions 😀

PS: bikebouy, those Quest 3D's are brilliant but way too much boot for my requirement but was seriously tempted
