Recorded a few songs live in our practise room a couple of weeks ago and the first one is finally mixed:

Kick mic, 2 overheads, SM58 on guitar cab, bass DI, SM58 on both vocals.

Recorded straight into Logic and mixed in there, not much on the drums except bus channel for kick slap reverb and a bus channel to try and dig the snare out a bit, touch of eq on the guitar, bass amp pro (some logic plugin) on me bass, and standard eq/compress/reverb on vocals (plus touch of delay on lead vox).

Thanks btw! Took a while to get everything sounding right. Love recording but hate rushed jobs like this, friends own a 'studio' (practise studio with a control room/mixing desk) which I can get for £100 for 24 hours so can't wait until we've got enough songs to justify going in there for a big stint and recording everything properly.

I like it.

Good mix of sounds. Lyrics being nonsense reminded me of The Cult (Electric) and general sound was sort of Eagles of Def Metal.

Record more please.

one take? I'm impressed!

One day in a studio doesn't give much time for recording; from experience it can take half a day just to get the kit set up, mic'd & eq'd.

(8 hr day that is. If you're going to go at it for 24 hours in one go, do not spend any of that time mixing - you'll be so tired you'll be lucky not to make a right mess)

Yeah recorded in one take (except backing vocals) but must have been the 15th time we played the song that day.

For demos like this I set up the mics at the beginning of normal practise session, record every time we played through a song and then kept the best one. Intention was always just to get the tracks recorded so didn't spend ages on mic position, if it captured the noise it was supposed to it was good enough!

Have recorded a few different bands at my mate's studio before so am used to the desk routing etc and how the room sounds, have a 'default' setup for the room which I can then tweak as needed. Works pretty well and saves a lot of time, it's never gonna sound like it was recorded at Abbey Road and I don't try and get it to sound like that.

Nice. Maybe the vocals a little higher in the mix?
I'm guessing you like Mother Love Bone?
