Love the "normal" R8 but this V10 looks and sounds amazing. I want one, I don't think the trade in of a golf and a Corsa will get me remotely close.

The R8 is just an awesome piece of engineering and that advert brings back memories and heart stopping excitement i doubt i'll ever experience again. A mate bought one of the last ABT RS4's with full option package back in 2007 but he sold it last year as he only managed to do 5000 miles in 5 years of ownership. I had it advertised on here for a while but even at the low price of £35k no-one wanted it, he's still got his ABT Q7 4.2 TDI though with 400bhp/900nm of torque so it's not all bad. Anyway....coz he bought those above he got invited over to Spa by ABT to collect his RS4 and try out the ABT R8 and i went along for a jolly as his GF/partner ain't that interested as she used to read his pace notes in his swb Quattro so fast cars on a track ain't nothing special to her. We got to spend all day on the circuit courtesy of Audi/ABT hospitality with their full fleet of tweaked Audi's at our (or rather my mates disposal).....I literally would quite happily gnaw my own left bollock off to own an ABT R8, the engine noise on the above vid made the hairs on my arm stand up and my heart started to race just like it did 5 yrs ago, admittingly it was only the R8 V8 version we tried back then but it was still frighteningly fast and it howled like a banshee.
I'll have to pester him to organise a test drive in the R8 V10, that engine note is just so addictive it's like car crack.

The I watched it again with my laptop hooked up to the stereo...
I went around the Audi special products unit near Heilbronn a couple of months ago and watched the R8s being riveted and glued together (edit: in fact they use seven or eight sophisticated methods of assembling the things including glue and rivets). They look good from the outside but didn't appeal at all - claustrophobic and poor visibility. On the other hand the A4 cabrios going down the line in the next workshop ticked all the boxes apart from carrying three or four people and their mountain bikes.

the old r8 v10 is 320 bhp/tonne, the s8 260 bhp/tonne
Saw a British plated R8 drive past us today in the Algarve, going very sedately for such a powerful car.

Meh. I'd have an R8 any time, but I wouldn't touch a 458. It's very pretty, but I have no lust for Ferrarri, except for an original 250GTO.
My cousin had one (not the V10) but no sooner had he got it that he split with his wife and it went (and before I got to drive it) 🙁
