MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
nah, not PROPER network attached storage - CRAPPY DIY network attached storage
Seems I now own a pair of those mains networking things that don't need wifi
I also have a big external USB drive that I use for backups. It also has an ethernet socket so was fancying moving the backup drive out of the room where my pc is (in case of fires, or nasty burglary type people visiting) using one of the plug things and the ethernet socket
Can it work?
I've tried just plugging in and the drive obviously becomes attached to the router but not on "my network" as it hasn't a computer attached to setup the group etc.
Is there an easy way of setting it up - I think you can get XP to run off a pen-drive, so could I do similar with the disc
Could I use FTP somehow (as it'll have a fixed address on my local network)
or what ??
If it's never been on an ethernet network it may need an IP address putting in somewhere
manual?
you should be fine but it'll be a bit slow if you want to use it for applications rather than just backups or music storage.
even pen drives on usb2 become a pita after a while for database use.
uplink, it's been assigned an address by the router (192........)
oooh, can access that & get a load of options to bugger up
...feel free to stop me ruining it anytime you like
ww (I used to like your previous login !), it's only for backups
