Just back from watching 'Steve' at the cinema as I couldn't wait for it on Netflix.
So glad I did ,what a beautiful and powerful film.
Great cast and the camera work is superb.
If you (or your family) have ever worked with teenagers that have additional needs, you will completely get it.
I was also chatting to a person that had been at the Toronto film festival.
Recommended two films coming to Netflix,Train Dreams and the new Knives Out. 👍
I haven't watched yet, but there's a new Alan Partridge on iPlayer, and aired this evening 9:30pm BBC1. He is investigating mental health 🤨
We finished Black Rabbit on Netflix last night after binging it over 2 nights. Absolutely brilliant!!
Dark as ****! Both in mood and in lighting. It gets really tense as you wonder what else can go wrong and how much worse everything is going to get. Jude Law and Jason Bateman are both superb as the 2 estranged brothers in the main roles. Jason Bateman is partricularly good, playing the polar oppsosite of his charachter in Ozark.
Well worth a watch.
Interesting, i got massively bored with it after 45 mins and bailed... maybe i need to try again.
New season of Slow Horses has started, in case you’ve been asleep. Didn’t get great reviews but I like it.

We finished it last night, found it a bit up and down, sometimes I was thinking it was mostly boring, the characters just a bit annoying, trying too hard to be cool and stylised.... Then the tension ramps up a bit and it was gripping for a bit. The last couple of episodes kept the tension up pretty good, overall it was worth it I reckon.
So what next for me? I am looking for stuff to watch on my lunch breaks that my wife won't be bothered about (I've just watched Alien: Earth and almost finished Gen V) – so basically anything a bit more on the gory/horror scale (we watch all the usual crime/mystery stuff together on evenings).
We tried Black Rabbit and got fed up after a few episodes. It's a bleedin mess. And I just can't stand Jason Bateman. I tried cos someone on here said he's different, but he's exactly the same overacting twonk he is in Ozark.
So we switched to Sugar with Colin Farrell, which is a few years old... starts well and I'm loving the Film Noir vibes. Also has Wendy out of Alien Earth in it.. though only in photos so far 🙂
I'm in the really enjoying Black Rabbit camp.
Sure it's well worn themes but entertaining for me.
The cinematography is top drawer. Exquisite 70s lensing (zooming and telephoto work) and production design - with a dash of era paranoia.
Long takes too.
And I just can't stand Jason Bateman. I tried cos someone on here said he's different, but he's exactly the same overacting twonk he is in Ozark.
Second this. He just doesn't have the acting range to do something like Ozark.

Respectively disagree. It was great casting.
The everyman trying to keep it cool was done very very well.
Ozark along with BCS remain my fav 2 Netflix home-growns.
Decent director too - in both Black Rabbit and Ozark.
Laura Linney also did some Black Rabbit episodes.
Anyway 'Task' is the top show of this year so far for me.
Has anyone seen Nero the Assassin?
Netflix. Drama series cos they can't make films, everything is a bloody series stretched across 8 episodes when a single bloody film would do.
That said, it seems quite promising so far, keen to know if anyone has watched the full thing?
Witches, sorcery, corruption, politics and killings plus a bit of shagging, all set in 16th century France.
IF YOU LIKE WATCHING AND LISTENING TO PEOPLE REPEATEDLY GETTING ANGRY AND ARGUING AND SHOUTING WATCH THE MORNING SHOW.
If you're more like me and that's not your thing, AVOID!
The OH is watching it :-/

Watched three of them and enjoyed it so far.
It's got more of a flavour of the Oasthouse podcasts about it than previous AP TV projects, which works for me. The best jokes in it are the subtle ones (apart from the clothing-based gag in ep1, which I won't spoil).

One assumes you've already watched 'The Boys' or Gen V won't make much sense.
After the disappointment of Alien: Earth, I'm using up the remainder of my month's Disney subscription watching Andor - and, despite having no investment in the Star Wars universe, enjoying it. It gets right what A:E got wrong.

I quite enjoyed the Wheel of Time, not in France, but set in... erm some place. It had monsters too! Then it was cancelled right after teasing at a larger over-arching storyline. Very disappointing.
I'm much more of a sci-fi fan than fantasy, but found it quite enjoyable, plus it wasn't part of any existing "universe" franchise marlarky that we've been bombarded with incessantly over the past twenty years.
The Last Frontier on Apple TV. Set in Alaska. First episode was very good with some great set piece action sequences. Highly entertaining so far....
I finished Nero the Assassin.
I think it would have been better as a film. Some of the episodes were filler and fluff but some good action scenes to offset that. Weird ending, very clearly set up for a second series.
If you fancy watching a truly gobsmacking, but excellent, documentary then The Alabama Solution on Sky is something of an eye opener.
I knew the American penal system was brutal, but it seems that in Alabama it’s tipped over into medieval barbarism, with guards literally beating inmates to death with complete impunity and zero consequences, utterly squalid conditions and forced Labour that’s effectively slavery.
Prisoners are interviewed and footage filmed on smartphones smuggled in. It’s truly shocking stuff!
Loved Blue Lights sadly no monsters or elves but still good.
We’re a couple of episodes into Blue Lights and it’s excellent so far
So we switched to Sugar with Colin Farrell,
Few episodes in now (we don't binge) and it gets better and better. I think Colin Farrell is a great actor, even when he's being American. In this he's excellent. (Apple TV)
Just finished Frauds on itvx. On one level it’s a sort of Thelma and Louise meets caper movie, but it’s actually quite good with some interesting characters and plot twists.

I must say, we have rally enjoyed this third series. Yes, like every drama there are some inconsistencies with what actually happens in real life but overall it feels like a really well written series. Nothing too stupid (well, apart from close personal relationships between half the team), some good tension and well acted. Definitely played more to the emotional side of the characters in this series
I'm trying to like the new Terminal List Dark Wolf season but it's not a patch on the 1st one. Looking forward to the actual season 2 of Terminal List.

Same here, it's ok, but the first two episodes were the best and then it just fizzled out into fairly predictable cliches. Meh/10 for me.
Death Inc. on Netflix is a very good dark comedy set in a funeral home, 3 seasons so far and great all the way through.
Very much enjoying Foundation after seeing it recommended here, almost like a cross between Dune and The Expanse which is right up my alley!
Your Honour season 2 was excellent
I'd agree with Bateman doing a good job for Ozark as well. Basically, he's playing an introverted accountant who doesn't like expressing emotion, albeit with a sociopathic streak. So he's not going to chew the scenery like Cranston in Breaking Bad.
Rewatching 'The Americans' at the moment. Forgotten how good it was.
Task just gets better and better
By far the best written show of the year.
A House of Dynamite: Kathryn Bigelow’s latest film. Netflix 24th October
Like all of her stuff it's about human beings
Decent cast, Carl Sagan voiceover, some Phil Collins music, hope it lives up to the hopes

Yes I'll subscribe just to watch this big fan of Kathryn's movies.
Not really streaming but I noticed S1 Star Trek Strange New Worlds is coming to ITV this week so I don't have to get Paramount+ to watch.
So he's not going to chew the scenery like Cranston in Breaking Bad.
And yet, for me .. it's all he does. Something about him I just can't stand. Like he's always displaying his "acting" rather than "becoming" the character he's portraying. Bradley Cooper's another one.
If we're recommending foreign language comedy (and Death Inc. looks brilliant, tbf) then I've got to recommend Haantjes on Netflix. Life and love in your 40s in Rotterdam? Funnier than it deserves to be.
I think once you've got irritated by Jason Bateman's acting, it's a lot harder to fully enjoy anything he's in.
If you're still enjoying him, crack on with it and ignore the naysayers.

I've had two goes at it, but I always lose the will to go on because it's just so bleak.
It's obviously quality TV, but it was more depressing than watching the news.

Oh definitely do that! I'm not saying other people shouldn't watch the thesp 😀
currently enjoying sally wainwrights 'riot women' on iplayer.
i believe the first episode was aired this week but it would appear the full series is on iplayer.
Caught the 2nd half of Riot Women - looked fun. Like a grown up version of Fanny Batter* or whatever that punk grrrl comedy was last year.
[edit] *We Are Lady Parts.
New series of Alice in Borderland is out on Netflix
Excellent Japanese dark Sci fi squid games sort of thing
Earthsounds on Apple is great if you like a bit of nature. Beautiful photography, a different angle from the usual and a decent narrator in Tom Hiddleston.
Makes the dogs look at the telly a lot too 😊
Caught the 2nd half of Riot Women - looked fun.
Binged it and thought it was brilliant. Yes, it veered off course into melodrama now and then, but never mind. Uncomfortable viewing at times if you're male. I suspect there will be some nervous shifting in seats by men watching this with female partners.
Has anyone mentioned Legion on Disney?
by Noah Hawley of Alien Earth and Fargo
absolutely bonkers, but brilliant bonkers, Aubrey Plaza is massively underrated but steals every scene shes in

The Iris Affair is well worth a watch on Sky, just to marvel at how staggeringly bad it is.
They must have good fun making it, jetting around the world to exotic locations, but my god it’s absolutely awful. I’m now watching the second episode just to laugh at it. I don’t think they actually intended it to be a comedy though
Just binged series 3 of The Diplomat on Netflix. Obviously absurd* but fun geo-political yarn where Britain and the US are not actually best-of-friends....
From the finale, I'd guess there'll be a series 4 sometime....
* I'm sure there are lots of Trump-related nonsense happening now which puts to shame even the most outlandish plots that Hollywood can think of....
Has anyone mentioned Legion on Disney?
Will give it a try, not a superhero fan but looks interesting, ta
Finished the new Partridge the other day - overall pretty good I thought, very enjoyable with some brilliant moments.
The Iris Affair is well worth a watch on Sky
Yeah, I set Sky+ to record it. Got Episode 1 and watched that...quite forgettable... next one on the box was Episode 7! Er, where's the rest? Don't think I can be bothered to stream it, cos it was pretty stupid.
Talking of Netflix - realised I haven't watched anything on there for months, been paying their bill for sod all. As this thread doesn't mention anything on there that takes my fancy, I shall cancel it.
House of Dynamite out today.
A lot resting on this one - how is Kathryn Bigelow 73?
A really solid film-maker. There's a lot of ageing directors absolutely still going Scorcese / Spielberg .
It's a bloody committed job.
Also thanks to Binners et al for the black-rabbit rec - I thought it was ace. Love out of control dark fizz like this.
Shades of Ozark/Uncut Gems - right up my street.
Upgraded to 4K for H of D.
I've also got Dead of Winter to watch with Emma Thompson. Looks Fargo crazy. Oh and Frankenstein.
Autumn always the best for movies / series.
(Just swapped my current account to Barclays blue bullshit rewards and you get apple plus if you pay £5 for their account. Which is an easy win if you've got savings to offset that in their attached savings account.)
