We just finished The Girlfriend on Prime. Much hyped “Oedipus “ triangle with Robin Wright. I didn’t find it all that erotic, in fact, but it was quite watchable. One key episode did annoy me a bit. If I find out how to add spoilers I’ll explain more, but if you’ve watched it you’ll know what I mean.

I will normally stick anything out to the end, like to see stuff through and give it a fair hearing. But had to give up on this after half hour or so. I thought it was bloody awful! It was like the script was written by a child, flagging everything along the way, here's this guy, here's his great life, here's his great apartment, here's his great wife and child, here's his mate who's had trouble with the law, here's how he's the only one fighting the good fight against AI because he's the only one cares about soul in music, here's a racist white police officer.... And the bloody constant incidental background music! Just have a bit of silence for Christs sake.
In fact, I feel like this was written by AI, just formulaic box ticking. But like I say, I never normally give up on stuff, maybe it turned it round and is actually a great movie, bit I thought it was a stinker.

Task episode 2 continued in the very watchable vein. I haven't seen many programmes where a child actor (the Sam kid) is so convincing and non-sickly. Looks a good 4-5 years older than 7 tho!
The young white female FBI agent is going to turn out to be a hero at some point, isn't she! 🙂
Last night I discovered (probably a bit late to the party) that Atlanta is on both Prime and Disney+. I stopped watching when it came off iPlayer, so was delighted and have restarted watching on Prime (the episode with PaperBoi's haircut).
The episode order is a bit jank on Prime - the episode descriptions are in the right order, but the episodes seem to be out of order - but it's classic TV
. I haven't seen many programmes where a child actor (the Sam kid) is so convincing and non-sickly. Looks a good 4-5 years older than 7 tho!
Okay, give the film 'She Rides Shotgun' a whirl for this very reason when it gets to the UK on streaming (it's had a small theatrical run.)
Noir-cartel cum 'Leon' road movie across New Mexico. Brilliant, simple and devastating thriller.
Staring and produced by Taron Egerton and young actress Ana Sophia Heger.
Nothing absolutely new but just well performed and an impending sense of dread. Great car chase in there too.
Love this type of move when it's well executed.

Idris Elba and a random US actor, both hamming it up for laughs.
Watched The Monkey on Prime this week, thought it was OK but not great - was expecting more after Longlegs from the same director. The comedy bits didn't quite work, I think.
I'm about 20 years late on this, but just watched S1 of Kath & Kim on Netflix and absolutely loved it.
Gen V 2nd series on Prime was off to a fine and bloody start 👍

Yes, excellent cast, silly plot, but fun.
This is quite a decent watch if you don't mind sub-titles (or are fluent in French) on the BBC
It might be a bit close to home for some and I'm sure that the former military folk on here could pick holes in the drills, but it's got to fit everything on a TV screen 🙂
I thought that it conveyed (my imagined) feelings of dread about walking through a city watched by lots of potential IS-locals from rooftops very well

It also has the French version of Lassie for the dog-lovers, running through a firefight for a first aid kit. That sequence really isn't as bad as I make it out to be, his handler radios ahead for the kit; we do not get,

"Woof, woof, woof"
"With an Intraosseous Access kit?"

Season 2 of GenV has just been released (well, partially) on Prime. Enjoyable if you're a fan of The Boys.
I'm a late-comer to Apple TV myself. Seems to be focussed on quality over quantity.
Slow Horses - Excellent, only watch S1 so far, hope it stays this good.
Murderbot - Enjoyable, easy watching when I want to just gawp at something fun.
Severance - Only watched one episode, but going to watch it all.
Foundation - No idea if it's following the original books, but it's rather good.
Ted Lasso - Naturally, it deserves all the hype.

Watched it last night. It's extremely silly, but entertaining. Hewie from The Boys is the highlight for me, playing a total nutter of a CIA agent. More of him and the hot spy lady kicking ass and less of the two leads moaning at each other would have been good.
Haunted Hotel on Netflix. We're one episode in but it's shaping up nicely. Like 'Ghosts', but animated and slightly different. Done by the folk behind Community and Rick and Morty.

I thought it was ok, not excellent but quite watchable.
I'm a late-comer to Apple TV myself. Seems to be focussed on quality over quantity.
Also give Silo, Bad Sisters and For All Mankind a go. Really enjoyed all of them. Dope Thief was an OK premise, got a bit silly in later episodes.
It's not all quality though: Prime Target and Masters of The Air were pretty dull.

Untamed on NowTV was good, too. The only link is that I thought it was the same actor (Eric Bana) as Task (Mark Ruffalo) but... clearly not.
Still working through Shogun here, and S2 of The Bear, both excellent in v different ways. Finally gave up on Only Murders at S4, just can't be arsed to keep watching it.
High Potential is back on Disney+ if you like easygoing episodic detective-ry - feels like Murder She Wrote in some ways. And just started Bake Off because it's September and has to be done

After the recommendations for Heads of State above I watched it Saturday, enjoyable silliness, so ideal for a Saturday evening session.
I hated Untamed, started with a great opening scene and the entire rest of the series was dull as ditch-water (aside from the scenery shots).

Ah, yes the Hulk was my common thought for them but didn't know they'd both played it.
And yeah, thinking about it, it was the Untamed scenery that kept me viewing.
Went to cinema yesterday - first time in a year. Gulp.
Was drawn to see One Battle After Another - Paul Thomas Anderson's new one with Leonardo DiCaprio. I will say nothing much about the plot - revolutionaries going up against border guards. Quite modern themes but feels like a different era.
It's started off very clunky for me - and eventually switched into conventional thriller mode about half way through.
It definitely had its moments but it's nowhere near the film the critics have painted it - full of energy and bizarre set-ups but far from PTAs best.
Only two of us in the cinema.
Gen V s2 is ok. Think the rewrite is showing. The scenes with the scooby gang / main cast are pretty clunky in places. Plot seems to move in weird ways too.
That said Hamish Linklater is excellent as this season's Dean though.
With a watch but not up to S1.

Does it actually live up to its name? Is it actually one battle followed by a different battle, or is it one battle broken into different parts while everyone stopped for a tea break? Please tell me it's not multiple battles happening at the same time.
How many battles are there? I guess two would literally be one battle after another, but surely, if you've built the set and costumes for two, you might as well jam as many in as you can.

Spoilers: that's the thing, the first battle went on a bit, people not dying very well etc, and there was another battle scheduled so the refs had to declare a draw to allow the "another" battle to start on time. And then someone put in an official complaint, you can imagine the paperwork.

We finished Black Rabbit on Netflix last night after binging it over 2 nights. Absolutely brilliant!!
Dark as ****! Both in mood and in lighting. It gets really tense as you wonder what else can go wrong and how much worse everything is going to get. Jude Law and Jason Bateman are both superb as the 2 estranged brothers in the main roles. Jason Bateman is partricularly good, playing the polar oppsosite of his charachter in Ozark.
Well worth a watch.
I really like Jason Bateman and Ozark. Top ten stuff. I suppose Bateman was playing against type in Ozark which was refreshing.

Really fancy Wayward on Netflix. Vermont based mystery/cult thing. Right up my street.

It's kind of when all the reviews are 5 star and you build it up in your head.
And whilst I liked the ending I thought it didn't do justice to the mystery of the set up.
Horrors often can't unravel their initial acts to a conclusion that is satisfying.
Kermode's review was spot on.
If you liked the narrative structure that Weapons was delivered in you should watch Strange Darling. That's a great film - not similar in theme but it unravels in an interesting way - switching perspectives.
Pretty mad ride.

I've been watching The Waterfront. It's so stupid that it's good, kinda like The Witcher, but about drug smugglers, and stupid because it was written by a very stupid person rather than being a work of genius like The Witcher. It's fun watching it and thinking, "Well, that was so stupid that I never expected anything so stupid to happen," but then, ten minutes later, thinking, "Well, that was even stupider than that last unbelievably stupid thing, surely it can't get stupider than this," but then, guess what?
Just watching Ep 8 of The Waterfront. Does not disappoint, spectacularly stupid.
