A call upon the hive for some musical assistance (as there are some right musical oracles on here).
I am after some "soothing"music, to help me maintain focus and calm down.
I'm a naturally hyper person and I am finding studying a bit of a 'mare, as I struggle to unwind out of work mode and switch into study mode.
I don't mind normal classical music, but I am after something along the lines of Craig Armstrong's Plunkett and Macleane type stuff.
Can anyone point out any other good stuff like this?

Cheers

Work your way through Bach 48 and you'll achieve - possibly - what you aspire.

I quite like some of the Steve Reich works although has to be a lowered tempo possibly.
Might also want to look at Taverner as above - in the theme of plainchant; Monteverdi; Hildegard of Bingen; Byrd, Tallis et al.

Sybelius is very relaxing, and most of Rachmaninov's works are beautiful, especially the Isles Of The Dead and Symphonic Dances, which can be found on one CD.
I have a Nimbus CD of Butterworth, Parry and Bridge, all British composers, which is very pastoral and restful.
Tangerine Dream's Richochet is also rather lovely.

Eh?

I can't agree with The Protecting Veil - I think it's quite edgy. But yes to Hildegard von Bingen and perhaps the Jan Garbarek Hilliard Ensemble mashups. Most classical music wasn't actually composed as something to relax to. You probably need one of those "Classical Chillout" albums!

Have a listen to Olafur Arnolds, A Winged Victory for the Sullen - ATOMOS new album - awesome!, Nils Frahm - Spaces, Peter Broderick etc.

You'll find them Here, At Erased Tapes, their record label.

You can thank me after you listen ๐Ÿ˜€

Hmmm.

I suppose I find it more comforting than relaxing.
With periods of blissful, other worldly transcendence, obviously.
๐Ÿ™‚

Great thread btw, some lovely stuff up there.
Spent last night stuck at work with someone threatening to kill me every 20 minutes.
Headphones on now, peace and relaxation.
๐Ÿ˜€

Can we have some more please?

Was just thinking of the Garbarek / Hilliard stuff this morning actually... that'd work I reckon.

try some of these too:

Arvo Part, e.g.

Max Richter, e.g.

(sometimes gets a bit mawkish/filmy)
Tim Hecker, e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFFae6hqmqg (bit more avant gardey)
Gorecki, e.g. Symphony 3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_pn_cVqGJQ

Was prevaricating over Arvo Part when I first read the OP. ๐Ÿ™‚

Cornelius Cardew as well, but not sure if I'd describe all of it as relaxing.

You might like these:

I like Michael Nyman too, but which to pick?

Craig Armstrong's Piano Works is easy on the ears, quite sparse but good.
