I've had my own domain address for the last 20 years or so and always used the web hosting company's webmail platform - currently on Fasthosts. Never needed a webpage on it, just use it for email.
The spam situation is now getting out of hand and I'm getting a couple of hundred spam messages per day which aren't getting picked up by the Fasthost spam filter.
I'm loathed to change my email address as I'm lucky enough to own my surname as the domain name so have the simplest email address of firstname@lastname.com.
So, is there host which has a really good spam filter which will stop me having to wade through all this crap. I only ever check my emails on an IPad or IPhone - is there an email app which filters the spam out?
You can use gmail as an email client. It has really good spam filters, I rarely see any.
Ditch the webhosting part, keep the domain name and pay google to use your custom domain to integrate into gmail.
Bye bye spam.

365 does a decent job of it, I think domain hosting is part of most of them.
If you want a nuclear option look at fusemail.
