OK, I don't go back to uni until the end of September. I work on Sundays (and maybe the odd extra day here or there) but other than that I'm free as a bird. After a month and a half off already I'm beginning to get rather bored.
I've got no money (everything I'm earning is paying for my rent!). I have a car, but due to the no money situation I'm trying to avoid running it when I can.
Riding is the obvious answer, but there's only so many times you can ride the same place in a week (especially when you're on your own), and road riding is not very exciting either.
To put things into perspective I've spent far longer than I should have today just refreshing these forums, facebook, etc.

So, what shall I do to stop myself going insane?

If Becky is short for Rebecca I'm sure there are plenty of guys on here who'll consider themselves suitable entertainment for you.

What's your location? There might be some interesting things near you to do/see/visit.

Enjoyment cannot be had without funds, you know this Citizen 223568FG/8.

Please return to the safety of your home, switch on the TV and banish all thoughts of free outdoor activity from your mind.

Any local clubs for you to ride with? There's sure to be an old duffers ride or 2 you can tag along with. Do a bit of trail work? Volunteering?

Come on, use your imagination! ๐Ÿ™‚

I thought my spelling was OK, just unfortunate that the one mistake I made was in the title!
Mumsnet, apparently.

don't you need to be a mum for that? or at least to be expecting a child soon?

yes Becky is short for Rebecca, if the guys want to come and ride bikes with me that would be fine, although I'm not sure what my name has to do with that.... ๐Ÿ˜‰

How about a noose of some sort....

And you're a woman, so you may as well put it up in the kitchen while you are in there..

All our local clubs seem to either ride weekends or ride roads, I was thinking about volunteering, but not sure who'd I'd volunteer for (nor am I sure I can work for free knowing that I am in dire need of money!)

Thank heavens you have a sense of humour, otherwise about half of these posts would be deeply offensive to you!

er... beyond that I'm afraid I have no ideas. Find some temp work to earn a bit of extra cash and fill the time? Volunteer, as someone suggested? Plus if you have something like that, you'll appreciate riding more! ๐Ÿ™‚

Co'on lass. Try going down to the library and ask if they need a reader for the kids. Try the hospital, they always need help. Try the job-centre if you are really desperate!

Just for TSY then... Volunteer as a female companion for some lonely mountain bikers - that'll keep you busy for weeks on end!

The job centre is a good idea as you may well be spending some time there after you've graduated...

Well, I'd read. Books. Lots of them. I'm a grown-up, but I've got a 6-week holiday this year because I'm changing jobs. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yeah, we're all mainly lonely rather than not-so-lonely. Something about the combination of scraggly beards, fetish for wheeled implements and spending far too much time on stw. Weird, that... ๐Ÿ˜‰

Do a bike tour.

Head out after work Sunday evening. Get as far as you can in one direction then pedal/train/taxi back for work next Saturday evening. See how far you get. Do each point of the compass over consecutive weeks.

I seem to recall you work at Pitsford Cycles so that's sort of in the same area as me (near Rothwell/Kettering). There's a local club Cats MBC who apparently do weekday evening rides, might be worth a look. My mates a member but I'm yet to join as I don't think it's worth paying for a local club since all the "trails" here are crap! If you fancy going for a ride this week I'm free tomorrow and friday, don't really know any good routes though.

If I've got your location wrong then ignore all of the above ๐Ÿ˜† Oh and enjoy the freedom, I'm starting my first full time job since uni next week and the real world seems far too close for comfort :\

About that age I took a tent and bike and a very small amount of money and disappeared for a couple of months.

Try it. It will keep you amused and you'll be able to bore your children with your tales...

What about volunteering at your local theatre or music venue? You'll prob get in to see stuff for free - if that kind of thing floats your boat ofcourse.

Tbh, I think it very much depends on what your area has to offer. Eg. I live in a tourist city, so there are quite a few free entry places...but not enough to make a summer out of.

Do a hobby swap with a mate? Get them to teach you something, and you teach them something? Could work, might end up gaining a new interest. I got my friend to teach me Spanish for a summer because I was bored...didn't retain it though, but that's not really the point. ๐Ÿ™‚

Tom, yes I do work at Pitsford Cycles, we are rather lacking good places to ride. I tend to just pootle around the Harlsetone Firs (although the current state of overgrowness is leaving my arms rather sore!)

Doesn't the Grand Union pass within a few miles? Cycle to That London & back, kipping at a friend's / BD's place. Or to Brum?

How about pruning some of the "overgrowness", that'd kill some time.

Film it too. It'll amuse some of the "lonley" mountain bikers on here seeing you prune your overgrowness. ๐Ÿ˜‰

lol @ mf - me too.
Yep become a local trail pixie - ride and prune trails. Plus a couple of all day rides / overnight bivvy rides to see how far you can get away from your normal trails.

Or you need an Xbox / PS3 and a gaming habit; Oblivion should keep you busy until uni.

But being serious, join the YHA and get yourself on a bike tour around the lakes or somewhere like that. Most of us on here would jump at such an opportunity. You will meet loads of people, be able to live for very little and have an amazing time.

have you tried asking at work for extra shifts?

if theres nothing going then give your local council an email and enquire about voulantering, they should send you a list of projects needing help

Also have you considered taking up other sports e.g run the trails that you would normally ride? you will see a lot you never noticed before and it will improve bike fitness
