Pretty simple requirement spec.
Quick enough for usual web browsing, bits of media
Quick start up
Windows and Office (can buy office for pennies through work Home User Programme)
Does not need much storage as happy using Google Drive / DropBox
Planning to get a GoPro so need to be able to edit
Have discounted Mac (too expensive) and Chromebook(not quite ready for this)
Quite happy to look at reconditioned stuff
Any ideas?
In the past I'd have avoided Chromebooks like the plague but the Asus Flip is very good and you can install android apps so office for android is possible.
For true Windows laptops Lenovo have something to suit all budgets and are usually pretty good.
I've bought my lad an 8gb / i3 Lenovo for Christmas.
Seems plenty fast enough but its quite plasticky...
If your not fussed on a new one, I'd go for a Dell/Toshiba from tier1online.

What does that mean, is it good?
yes its a good price for the spec and brand new - it will do what you want
and be fast enough
Got a second hand laptop for sale, so I'll shamelessly plug it. Looking for £300 posted, it's in my profile somewhere. Or on ebay if you want some buyers protection.
i7, 16GB ram, 1TB hdd and 2gb video card.
Acer Aspire v3-772G
Chromebook won't be any good for go-pro editing. I wish it were.
Got a nice HP from Tier1 for £220 for no.1 daughter recently, i5 with a 128GB SSD, starts and works really quickly.
Gigarefurb had a nice Dell with the same spec for £199 last night.
