MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
I'm doing an 18 month course for promotion at work. It's all online, I need to upload documents, write essays, join in with discussions. It's on a thing called moodle if anyone's ever heard of that. It's all designed to work on chrome.
I'm at my wits end already, and clearly an iPad is not going to cut it for this thing.
Can anyone recommend me a laptop, as cheap as possible, that will ask 18 months? That I can get delivered quite quickly.
I use moodle and upload docs etc with my ipad. Why do you think it won't cut it?
Fwiw i just bought a laptop to replace my macbook (couldn't justify the appl tag). Ebay is gold for cheap laptops, especially if its simple doc stuff you're doing. Look for i3 or i5 processors.
Have a look at John Lewis. No recommendations but whatever you choose could be with you (or Waitrose) tomorrow and warrantied for 2 years.
This is ok: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-stream-11-d007na-11-laptop-blue-10075697-pdt.html
Both are small and light with good battery life. Not the most powerful but good enough for document editting and online stuff. Cheap and likely to be available in your local store or quick delivery.
This any good?

I've used them in the past, delivery is about 72 hours.
can I chip in with a chromebook here?
If you'r eusing moodle, and other colaborative working, chances are its google docs or at least it will work with google docs. you want tomsething cheap, light, super fast boot....it's a chromebook.

🙂
I wondered about a Chromebook stoner, but rather than look up what they are, decided I didn't really know so that won't do. Ridiculous eh 🙂
by the sound of what you need it for, I reckon you are a perfect user. esp if you already have a gmail account, but even if you dont there's no reason it wont work v well for you needs.
The only thing that I'm wary of with storing documents in the cloud, is that I have to submit work documents, albeit heavily redacted to anonymise them, that would still contain operational information. Whether that's any less secure than moodle, which we have to use, I don't know?
I dont see Moodle as being any more secure than google for docs.

Power wise anything will probably do what you need. Depending on the when and how you will be doing it I'd think about a keyboard and screen + mouse at home as a desk setup to plug into the laptop.
Can't see why any laptop wouldn't last 18 months as you should get most of that on warranty. Dell refurbished is my place of choice for better vfm.
Absolutely loads of cheap laptops on sale at Currys/PCWorld currently. Can't really go wrong with any for what you want.
Ok thanks very much
Get a Dell, I did, it was delivered within 3 days, works fine and as it was from the outlet was very competitively priced too.
