Just got my new family tent delivered. 52.5 kilos 8O... Not going to be much fun getting that into the loft! Fortunately its split into 2 bags (poles and fabric).
I got tent envy and sold the Vango 400 4 person tent for a monster Outwell Vermont 6 person tent. There are 3 of us.
So is N+3 acceptable 😳

Not if it doesn't have a woodburner

I did have four, now down to 3, not that I use any of them regularly:

1. Car Camping tent - 4 person (used for MM etc)
2. TNF VE25 2/3 man 4 season tent, been used for Camping in Cairngorms in winter etc for climbing
3. Macpac Minaret - 2 man back backing tent, been used for camping in Lakes in winter
4. MacPac Microlight - 1/2 man used for KIMM etc sold on STW

Is it N+3 as in N is the 3 of you and the +3 is the extra people you could theoretically have with you in the tent?

I reckon it should be Nx2 (which is the same in your case).
i.e.
1 person = 2 person tent
2 persons = 4 person tent
3 persons = 6 person tent
etc.

This doesn't apply to me as its 4+ dog in a 5 person tent.
I therefore need a bigger tent...

N+1 tents is a thing. I own:
1. Lightweight 1-man tent
2. Lightweight 1-man tarptent (tarp and bathtub floor)
3. Lightweight 2to3-man tarp
4. 2-man car-camping tent (not really used now)
edit: 5. 1-man car-camping tent (not really used now)

I have a 2p mountain tent, a light 4p one for family camping and I would have a big family one except I have a caravan which is far better 🙂

May get a super light 1p job in the future. I also have a 3m2 tarp and a 5m2 tarp to use with the 4p tent.

Ah yes, Nx2 should be the formula. We fit perfectly into that cat 🙂
I meant size of tent, not number of tents, although I do own 3 tents, well 4 if you count my boys Lightning McQueen play tent!

2 people and dog:

1 x 4 person vis-vis basecamp for car camping (double + living + storage)
1 x 2 person mountain tent for short trip/get up and go car camping (or splitting load between two packs for backpacking/bikepacking)
1 x 1-2 person lightweight tent for solo ackpacking and bikepacking (with microtarp annexe)

I've got 4, had 5 till my son destroyed one at t in the park :).

Very large family tent that we would only use for week long camping.
Largish family tent for weekends
3 man low tunnel style tent for overnight car camping
North Face tadpole 2ish man tent for overnights

We're looking at a polycotton tent to replace 1&2 though.

N x 2 is right

In my 2person tent, the only place for the 2nd person is on top or underneath.
