OP, from my perspective, you're paying a professional to help you get your body back into shape and then you receive additional value with specific instruction and advice and yet, before taking this professional advice and instruction on board, you need the approval from a load of Northern Neanderthal ego's whose experience and qualifications are in WAN's and databases!

As an aside, I always find the concept of stretching for exercise amusing when a muscle in use actually contracts.
It's actually useful.
Had issues with piriformis muscle, and stretching and MF release with a ball or roller soon improved the situation.
Always helpful to seek advice ftom a competent professional in such things though.
Very useful, foam rollers, balls, the end of my bed, fingers ,thumbs. I'll use anything to get the pressure applied.

Rollers and balls etc can be used any time you get tight muscles loose.
I put my leg bone through my pelvis, shattering it, requiring a 5-6 hr op to rebuild. 8 months off work, getting physio the whole time. Broke 2 ribs and my collar bone too. Twas coming off my road bike at approx 25mph, hitting a wall.
Physio introduced me to loosening the knots and trigger points.
Three years later almost back to full fitness, still get the roller out for my legs and hip though.
Mrs K bought a Massage stick - like a foam roller in rolling pin guise - much easier to use whislt watching telly.

I find that if I don't stretch my left hamstring then I can get pain in my left hip either running or cycling. In fact my left leg is a bit rubbish, it's the one that gave me ITB issues and when I had Plantar Fasciitis it was in my left foot. Come to think of it but I'm a bit like Dudley Moore in the Tarzan sketch!
MR is much more than the ball thing. In my experience that is the diy at home bit not what the professional does. It feels nothing like a normal massage either and can be very sore.
I have hyper mobility and had a twisted pelvis successfully realigned through MR sessions. I had to get it privately although the initial problem diagnosis and subsequent monitoring was done by the hospital. It isn’t cheap but worth every penny to me.
You can also find fully peer reviewed studies demonstrating an outcome equivalent to surgical intervention for carpal tunnel syndrome. Not snake oil but make sure they are qualified rather than a yoga teacher who has attended a seminar on it......
