I have few mates who understand the drama and joy of watching test cricket. Go about your Sunday but always have it on somewhere in the background and it makes for awesome sport. Even did the dinner washing up watching it on my phone. Bloody great day!

Breaking - Smith out of the third test.

Whilst that is going to make England's job a lot (potentially - depending on how Labuschagne plays) easier it's a real shame. You want both teams at full strength. It's like when McGrath tripped on a ball and we made hay - does not feel quite the same when you win in those circumstances.

It does make letting him go back out to bat looking even more daft a decision.

While it's good from a winning perspective I would like to have seen how he coped with Jofra on what's been called the fastest pitch in England. We should see a decent win here if some of the batsmen can wake up.

Don't get too carried away with the Jofra effect. Yes, he is capable of bowling a ball at 96mph, but Starc has hit 95mph himself, Cummins can bowl 90+ as can Pattinson. Hazlewood is also a match for every other available England bowler in purely pace terms.

Wickets that favour extreme pace are not to England's advantage as we only have one truly express bowler, they have three.

There should be a TMS rule that Boycott is only allowed to be on the radio during rain delays if Aggers is on too to keep him in check. This is excruciating.

edit - scratch that. Just get him gone.

Struck amidships...

Tim Paine thinks about two but Marnus Labuschagne sends him back. A quick run is not what that man needs right now. Walking like John Wayne.

Yep, certainly caught him square. The camera angle from the stumps was particularly wince-inducing! This is turning into a decent evenings work after some dross earlier.

never mind that weird dismissal, we'd better get on and win this one - I reckon Labuschagne and Smith might bat for 3 straight days

Fingers crossed we can make hay tomorrow! Having passed on tickets for days 4/5 of this test I’ll be happy to see a 3 day test with us winning with an innings to spare.

That ticket I've got for Sunday looks like a poor investment now. I don't know what to wish for - get this over with by the end of tomorrow so I don't go at all, or pray that both teams remember that they aren't playing in the Big Bash......

The Stokes shot sounds like a howler. Stokes is the guy who has sown most flexibility in his batting approach over the last couple of year too - but, pressure and all that....

You can't score runs in the shed FFS!

I think Aussies will bat and bat and bat to rub it in. 500 odd and bowl England out for 100 second dig.

I turned on the radio just over an hour ago expecting to hear England passing Australias score for the loss of a couple of wickets.

I was scratching my head wondering why England were bowling. I thought I was listening to highlights of another test.

It must be demoralising for Englands bowlers who did well yesterday, particularly Archer.

Which is why Australia's game plan now should be to bat until they've got as many as they can - really grind the England bowlers into the dust. It doesn't look like they'll manage that now - but they will still have enough to win the game unless England find a magic spell from someone.

Morgan for captain?

His back can barely last an ODI and he's no spring chicken so it'll never happen.

It would be good to have a *proper* captain rather than do it football style and just give the "best" player the title. The problem (as it was before Root was appointed) is a lack of candidates. Who are the strong leaders who can not only be a tactical mastermind on the field but also whip the ECB in to shape and handle the off field more political stuff and put a long term plan in place like Morgan appears to have done for the ODI side?

Good thinking from Denly, nice to see the classic village cricket tactic of ‘old-manning’ get a run out in a Test. Maybe Jofra could do it, just hobble slowly enough to lull the batsmen into a second and then laser it in over the bails.
