Poor woman in the next seat to me has just bought a walk up ticket.

First ball, Root out

Second ball, Chef out

She's about to be sent home

broad and stokes aren't fit, rashid  has no control and Moen has realized he's number 1 and doesn't like it and Anderson is striving too hard to do over ol' Glen McGrath. So we have one bowler 🙂

Just seen Rashid's ball to dismiss Rahul.

Watching the slo-mo replay I'm thinking "why is the ball heading over there?" Looks like it landed in one of the footmarks and got some extra grip in there.

And there you have it ... Jimmy wraps up the series with his record breaking wicket.  Almost a mere sideshow to the insane comings and goings of this particular match.  There really is no format quite like Tests.

From the Sky commentators, the Sri Lanka test pitches are raging turners from ball 1 this winter😳

I have to admit to feeling rather down this morning.

He's has been such a big part of the last decade of England cricket, and watching the interviews with him, and James Anderson last evening (classy of Ian Ward to cut away when Jimmy dissolved I thought) made me realise that although I've never met him and never can be as close as his old team mates and roomies, I'm going to miss him too.

Never again will I wake up for a wee in the middle of a winter night, think "I'll just check the score..... ah, Chef's still batting, all's OK with the world" and go back to sleep.

Privileged to have been at the ground on Monday

SPOTY, and I suspect he'll be on Essex's card as Sir Alistair Cook next year.

One of my favourites though is about 20s into this highlights reel from Ashes 2015....... helping Nasser with pronunciation of long words.

I always feel down after the last test of the summer, TMS is summer to me. It was a perfect way to end it though.

Buttler and Curran were huge positives for the series. Not sure about Rashid but I can see why he was played so he would be integrated into the side before Sri Lanka.

Obviously, the is still have an issue with the 3 openers, England shouldn't try to replace Cook, there are few if any old style openers left in the world now. What is needed though is someone to stick around long enough so that Root and the impressive middle order do not face the new ball. Buttler should bat at 5 as a specialist batsman, he's proved he is good enough. Barstow does well at 7 and should go back there.

Bowling wise everyone goes on about spin it's the lack of pace on pitches that don't do much that worries me.

Farewell too Chef, a good series, and to a great summer.

It is true that the last test does signify the end of the summer. But still, what a summer of cricket, and in fact sport in general it has been.

Be a shame not seeing Cook open, partly as he's such a fine player, partly as there's no-one else to go in instead.

suspect it's a little quiet at Taunton currently (edit....Bangers has just been on waving a white flag). Wright has gone beserk.

If you're still there come final time, this will have been one hell of a game!!

This 'Cricket Social' replacement for TMS I am listening to right now...thoughts? Not for me I'm afraid - I'm guessing it is cheaper to broadcast. Anyone know when they are going to use this format - for all overseas matches or just the 'low rent' tests?

Strikers should have put Rashid in to bat - the extra 20 runs could have made it a lot closer.

In other Australian cricket, Hurricanes recovered from 11-3 to finish 145-5, thanks to George Bailey’s composed 70. Could be a good chase, as this is the highest score on the pitch this BBL, and the Renegades have Finch back on their squad.
(R5SX commentary, as slow start to the day.)

James Anderson has three wickets for five runs in four overs with this new ball.

He's a bit special, that lad.

With my extensive knowledge of cricket, I reckon W Indies probably don’t fancy a 4th* innings on that pitch if England somehow managed to post a decent 3rd*.

* or should I just say 2nd for both?

Plus the trend has shifted away from enforcing the follow-on. There's a school of thought that it's better to keep your bowlers fresh if you can, rather than sending them straight out again.

Yeah but in this case I reckon they were just warmed up 30 overs and still didn't make a ton!!

Surely though the bowlers should be pretty fresh - they weren't bowling for long! Knock over 3 or 4 tonight, get a good rest and finish it off tomorrow morning.

Wonder sometimes if there's a financial element in looking to extend the match for longer?

This could all be over today if they get a shift on.

Really doesn't look like the pitch will be helpful during the 4th innings. Or the third. Or the second.
