[Closed] My coffee machine just died, what do I do?!
Waaaa... my lovely bean to cup DeLonghi just made a very strained noise followed by a bang and now won't grind. It's 3 months out of warranty 🙁 I have contacted DL UK in the faint hope they'll do something but I doubt it.
So...
What do I do? I keep seeing people saying that a bean to cup won't produce the same quality of coffee as a grinder and espresso machine, BUT... we love our early morning cups when we're still sleepy, my wife hates faff with a passion, and I'd like to keep the spend down. Plus we usually drink lattes... would an espresso machine do this or would it be a line of machines to grind, make coffee and froth/heat milk?
Is there a better option than the delonghi esam thing for a similar budget?
I just want the damn thing to work... it's been quite handy and used every day for over 2 years.
Go back to reading your Sun 😉
Bean to cup won't be brilliant but in the same way £10 won't buy you an awesome bottle of wine or that an oktavia isn't an a4.
Aeropress, as in the thread above.

If it died because of a fault, doesn't matter. If you can prove it's a manufacturing fault and it typically should last longer than that, they need to repair/replace and you've got up to 6 years under UK law (though after 6 months it's down to you to prove the fault).
If it died because of lack of maintenance, then that's either bin or repair it yourself 😉
Do you know what went bang? Could be a cap in the power supply. Or could be the grinder has jammed and something gone there. I guess being bean-to-cup you don't manually set the grind, it just does it for you? I know with some manual grinders (like mine) if you set the grind too fine it can wreck the burrs.
Sounds like the grind motor has burned out and went pop, prob due to a high load passing through the worn motor brushes, time to bite the bullet and buy something else.
Either work out what failed yourself and order the parts from:

Or chat to the bloke about repairing it.
I've used them twice, they are very helpful and stopped me from ordering parts that I didn't need to fix the fault.
Aeropress & a decent milk frother, I've even converted my lad who's a bloody nespresso junkie...
