Only 2 rules:
1. Pick one track only from Youtube or Vimeo - doesn't have to be your favourite, but good videos will be rewarded.
2. Has to have been released in 2013.
Please entertain me.
ha! I read the thread title and was going to suggest the same track!
Blinder of an album, listen to it most mornings on my way to work.
Me too...
It's so difficult to post just one track!
Keep em comin'.
The only band I've got to see this year.
Contains the naughty oedipal word:
Well, that's the sexiest video I've seen all year. Thank you Danny
😀
Tough call for track of the year but the Bronx edged it on the entertaining video criteria.
What a coincidence that is - just listening to the Young Turks 2013 compilation in between these videos. Superb stuff.
[edit]BAN HIM! 2 videos not allowed!
I have tickets to see both Moderat and Jon Hopkins in February for my birthday 8)
Picking one tune from an entire year is nigh on impossible. But this is floating my boat right now -
[url=
- Inward Outburst (Synkro Remix)
What no X-Factor finalist?
Not sure if it meets the criteria - it was at least re-released this year and got much wider attention than it originally did a couple of years ago.
Its the tune that i'll remember summer 2013 by anyway 🙂
Actually can I have this instead?
[url=
- Begin By Letting Go
This in the car turn right up, bassline rattling my brain cells and goose bumps up the back of my neck. Love it 8)
Chosen purely for If I Had a Tail, but why have one song when you can have several stitched together into a rather twisted storyline?
Good song but the video is one of this year's best
Sorry, must pay more attention.]BAN HIM! 2 videos not allowed!
schrickvr6 - awesome track
Radioactive by Imagine Dragons.
made me want to buy that Assassin's Creed game several times over - I don't even have a console to play it on.
Powerful.
Quite surprised by how many have been listening to the same stuff as me. Marvellous. 😀
Don't forget kids... Write the song and artist so I don't have to click on S Club 7.
I think everyone's forgotten so far!
Here's a list:
Moderat - Bad Kingdom
Daft Punk - Get Lucky
Jon Hopkins - Open Eye Signal
Ugly Kid Joe - No Ones Survives
the Bronx - Youth Wasted
John Grant - GMF
British Sea Power - Monsters of Sunderland
Chvrches - Lies
FKA Twigs - Water Me/London Grammar - Strong
Avicii - Wake Me Up (featuring extremely gorgeous woman)
MACKLEMORE & RYAN LEWIS - Can't Hold Us feat. Ray Dalton.
Etherwood - Begin By Letting Go
QOTSA - Like Clockwork
Dan le San v Scroobious Pip - Gold Teeth
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Sacrilege
Imagine Dragons - Radioactive (no vid?)
It's a Christmas song that's currently floating the Sandwich household boat. Rizzle Kicks "Happy That You're Here"which isn't bad for a modern beat combo song.
Rolling with the QOTSA theme. Featuring Elton John. Perfection.
Tickets booked for Manchester in May. Bring it.
I had never given NIN a thought then a mate lent me the new album. It is pretty damn good.
Featuring Elton John. Perfection. In spite of that fact 🙂
No points for the video, but this is my favourite tune of the year.
This album is getting me through work this week (and crap, it's only Tuesday)
For fans of alternative country and fine music.......Jason Isbell Travelling Alone.........
/p>
A simple, stunning, video for a track on one of my favourite albums of the year.
It's not often I pay attention to YouTube comments but…
HD. Full Screen. Volume Up. Subwoofer +10. Rock it.?
Yep, it's brilliant! But! it was also the 3rd track on the thread..
So you can have another one 🙂
🙄 oh, **** buttons, how did I manage to miss that?!
The Red Wing, from Slow Focus
Disclosure - Help me lose my mind.
I think this is the best pop song of the year, and the video is just fun.
I haven't sat through the 24 hour version though obviously.
Prizes for spotting Odd Future, Steve Carrell and Magic Johnson (among others).
Disclosure - Help me lose my mind.
Was hoping someone would post that. I think that's the best pop song of the year. Gives me a lift every time.
My fave of the year is Rudimental "waiting all night"
The video makes me teary eyed..& has bmx's in it.... 😀
I can't embed ,so someone do me a favour please?
my pleasure
Probably this.
Daughter - Human
thanks DezB.
Good thread. Burial released some new tunes the other day if anyone's into him
OP that track is a beauty, not heard that before. I have mine but can;'t post at work - will post up later.
Good thread btw.
Good thread btw.
You ain't kidding! Now Burial too! 😀
Awesome thread folks - keep em comin!
I know I've had one already but stuff you all, no video but can't stop listening to this, dayglo wristbands and headband all the way...
Quite liked what my old pal Kate came up with:
That it?
sneaks another one in
^^
Trampled by Turtles - Midnight on the Interstate.
Discovered them this year, seeing them at Celtic Connections in January.
Well, if we're allowed more:
And this one just makes me want to break out the dodgy 80s dance moves.
Florida Georgia Line, " Get yer Shine On"
There's been lots of really good tracks this year, but this one never fails to get my toes tapping. And it got radio airplay, too!
The Range - Jamie
London Grammar, and Jon Hopkins, yes!
and this:
Excellent! More, and Jamie pokes his head up 😀
Grandbrothers : Ezra was Right - very infectious Synth/piano led track championed by Gilles Peterson over the previous few months.
Goldfrapp : Annabel - stunning earthy vocal delivery from alison, one of their best tracks to date (my opinion obviously)
Royksopp with Susanne Sundfør : Running to the Sea - quite a few decent remixes of this track floating about but i prefer this original.
Fat Freddy's Drop : Mother Mother - infectious monster of a tune.
S.O.H.N : The Wheel - released at the very back end of last year so shoot me for including it, utterly sublime track and in my top 10 played of this year.
Parquet Courts : Stoned & Starving - very easy to sing along to under the influence and an excellent band to see live, Vid comes from Lance's "Mellow Johnny's" bike shop in Texas....oh the ironing.........
Kronos Quartet/Kyp Malone + others : Sorrow Tears & Blood (fela kuti) - brilliant re-edit of a classic song, the boys did it justice.
Chvrches : Lies - brilliant modern synth led trio, Ian has a wealth of plinky-plonky programming talent and lauren carries off the lead with ease
Loads of others in my most played this year but as they're mostly Tech House/Tech funk or Electronic so i won't bore you shitless wi them 😉
edit : Had to include this one below
Leon Vynehall : Brother Brother
Bit of Biffy...
Sound isn't right on this recording but, well, Stingin' Belle is atomic grade quiet/loud built to make audiences completely lose their shit, so shame not to really
[url=
- Sprinter
The lack of video is more than made up for by the song itself...
Can't post videos from you tube app. Heading to the laptop.
Everything Everything - Duet
Rudimental - Free
'ere somafunk, the idea was ONE track!
So, another one of mine
PS.
Cheap album for charidee on Bandcamp - 123 tracks for £6 goes to MacMillan. http://touched.bandcamp.com/
PPS. Jamie's choice is £4.99 on junodonwnload. Avin' that.
Ahh..... my bad, i read the title as "tracks of the year", ie : plural so more than one was allowed.
It's impossible to choose just one, my fav track of the year prob changes many times a day.
I have added the tracks in this thread ( the ones that I could find anyway) to a spotify playlist.
STW tracks of the year
Record of the year for me..
Fun, Norwegian disco/pop that only came out on an Australian 7" but took off big time on edjumacated dancefloors. 🙂
my fav track of the year prob changes many times a day
Mine too! Great choices btw. Just thought if everyone chose loads it would get to be too huge to bother going through them all. As it is, I for one, have listened to every single posting 🙂
Lovin' this
Keep coming back to this one. From the Album 'Resolution' which is pretty stunning IMO
John Newman sounds like a cross between Plan B and Vic Reeves pub singer to me. Don't get that at all.
DezB : Give him a chance - he's just finding his style at the moment. I'm subscribed to 100+ music blogs which necessitates spending an unhealthy amount of my time (according to my ex) listening to tunes (better than the **** soaps and tv she used to sit glued to for 4hrs a night) and he's been cropping up as a guest vocalist on some rather esoteric music scenes over the past 6 months, once he's got the awkward first album out of his system he may surprise you, Gilles Peterson (all hail the master and saviour of musical taste) seems to think he's worth watching.
I'm afraid i just don't get the noisy stuff such as cdoc's posting above (sign of reaching my 40's perhaps?), i try and find something to appreciate in every form of music but i'm at a loss with that one i'm afraid.
Loving the thread btw - keep it up peeps!.
