I have really got into Rev Hammer again recently, like a more rock n roll Seth Lakeman. If you like the chaos of DKM, try Gogol Bordello - especially Super Taranta.

I always recommend a bit of Steve Earle, and some Alabama 3. No idea whether you'd like 'em though. 😀

The Aliens - Astronomy for Dogs.
Haven't met anyone yet who doesn't like it :-).

It's the Beta Band without Steve Mason, so the mood is a bit lighter - still pure class though.

Second Camera Obscura. How about Andrew Bird, Asobi Seksu, Metric, The Dears, The Acorn, Black Mountain, Wolf Parade, School of Seven Bells, Howling Bells, Gemma Hayes, The New Pornographers, The Submarines, The Stills, The Shins, Stars, The Wailin' Jennies, Fleet Foxes, Kris Delmhorst, Shawn Colvin, Patty Griffin, Joan As Police Woman, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Death Cab For Cutie.
There, that little lot ought to keep you occupied for a little while. I have albums by all of the above, and I've seen most live as well, and every one is a truly quality act. I don't listen to rubbish. 😉

Just thought of a couple more, The Joy Formidable and Mechanical Bride. Oh, and Thea Gilmore. Then there's Elle Edmonson...

Eldridge, read his post and look at the list of people sheldona's listening to. Do any of those artists actually look like they might be writing symphonies. No, I didn't think so. Every one of those composers is familiar to me, I even have recorded works by a number of them, and I'm sure that sheldona is old enough to have heard of most as well. Go and troll somewhere else, there's a good boy, I think it's past your bedtime.

Hello CountZero

appropriate name!

look at the list of people sheldona's listening to

Actually, old boy, if YOU read his post properly you'll find he asks for

something else

So (DURRRR - that's a reference to The Simpsons) recommending something like he's already listening to is not a helpful response

and he may be

old enough to have heard of most as well

but that doesn't mean he's been adventurous enough to listen to them, does it now?

Not impressed by your claim:

I even have recorded works by a number of them

Most of the people I know have CDs ("recorded works" LOL!) by all of them - often multiple versions by different orchestras/conductors/soloists

Welcome to the world of middle class, educated people with musical tastes which extend beyond the popular

Go and expose your proletarian education somewhere else, there's a good boy. I think this topic has gone beyond your intellectual capacity.

😉

I would recommend:

The King Blues, Cara Dillon, Flobots, Emiliana Torrini, Alela Diane, Martin Simson (amazing fingerstlye guitarist), bellowhead, & Bella Hardy

'Tis mostly folky type stuff

Jane's Addiction.

This 'best of' is a good introduction if you've not listened to them before

Not that it's particularly new, but I've been enjoying Bon Iver recently. Oh, and on a bit of a retro 'bl00dy hell I'd forgotten all about them' way, the sunny week just gone was great for Ocean Colour Scene and the Cardigans.
And Godspeed You Black Emperor for when it's not sunny!
