I have asked before but can't find the thread (sorry)

I archived all my cds to NAS using itunes and used the apple lossless format which my squeezebox doesn't want to play without me importing something and as I have more to import it seems best to reconvert the existing files to the "best@ lossless type.

What's the "best" lossless type and what software can I use to convert and archive? I tried one of the freebies to archive some cds and it took AGES cf itunes, I'd like it to be reasonably quick.

I use DbPowerAmp for converting music. You can convert to multiple types at the same time, different folders, etc. It also uses one processor core for each file, so if you have a powerful PC it whizzes through!

I generally convert to FLAC and MP3 320kbps CBR.

Freac is good - http://www.freac.org/

I do the same as Milkie, FLAC for storage then HBR MP3 for listening

Well after a hurried go at FLACing some cds, I now have FLAC, m4a and mp3 files in various places on my HD and NAS...

Is there an easy way of FLACing all my m4a files into one place then mp3ing those I don't have mp3s of already?

DbPowerAmp does batch conversion IIRC
