the off road coast to coast is a classic trip, fantastic riding can be done in 5 days, use the packhorse people to carry your luggage

A 5-dayer in the lakes could give loads of options, but a circular tour taking in most areas could be good and seems to have a decent rationale. From Keswick for example, Day 1 - best of Helvellyn and Ullswater, day 2 - High Street, Kentmere and Staveley, day 3- Grizedale, Coniston, Dunnerdale, Eskdale day 4 - Wasdale, Ennerdale/ central fells and Langdale, day 5- Borrowdale, back of Skiddaw and Skiddaw. Don't know if that meets a 'challenge' though - depends on the routes you choose and the weather as you can make it easy or more interesting. Plenty of options though and bivvy potential without ever being any distance from shelter and food.
