My PC currently has both running on it, but just been thinking do I actually need Zone Alarm if MS is running?

No, having both is more likely to cause problems than help.

is it Zone alarm security suite or zone alarm firewall?
MS Essential's and the ZA security suite will be the same thing but ZA firewall replaces the MS firewall. Though if you un-install ZA firewall the MS one will/should kick back into life.
I dumped AVG Anti-virus & ZA firewall in favour of the MS offerings a while back.
