MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
Just discovered that MS flight sim is horribly addictive - and i have never really played any computer games or simulators before.
It is great, can get more expensive than biking when you buy multiple monitors, multiple controllers, pedals etc etc
MS Flight is a poor alternative to a simulator with guns. 😈
Has anyone used X-plane? Looks amazing, not sure how well it'll run on a 2012 Macbook though.
X plane is good. "Flight Unlimited" is also worth a look.
For some reason this made me think of the Excel 97 Easter egg?!
Worth watching just to feel the paperclip anger again

I've so far avoided MS flight, can see it being a timehole.
It always concerned me that people could rack up real flight miles for their pilots license on MS Flight sim, or was that just an urban legend?

Urban legend with a grain of truth, real pilots can use the proper simulators (often built with commercial hardware) to gain experience: http://bit.ly/1KerTLG
I'm not sure if the hours are logged the same as real hours, Flaperon could confirm if they are in the airline industry.
X-Plane X is pretty awesome - if you get seriously into it. It is now 64 bit and will use memory like its going out of fashion if you start importing high-res ground textures.
FSX is older and 32bit only, it can be a bit of a pig to optimize and get running stably but there are some good guides out there. A slightly refined version has just been released on Steam and has been tweaked and recompiled, early reports are its more stable and runs with a better frame rate for some people but a few 3rd party add-ons no longer work.
In the pre-Christmas sales I picked up an F-15E Strike Eagle for FSX with fully simulated weapons, I haven't got round to testing it yet but it looks like you can shoot down other aircraft 🙂
For proper combat simulation check out DCS World. The base pack is free and the included civilian P-51 Mustang is amazing - you will soon buy the military one to be able to attack tanks and dual it out with an FW-190.
As already noted this can become an expensive hobby and both FSX and X-Plane will see you develop an overclocking habit as they are CPU hogs and need fast processors. DCS world is a different beast and can run quite well on older hardware with a decent graphics card provided you have 4Gb RAM.
If you have a masters in Aeronautics, then DCS is pretty good. Especially once you get into the A10-Warthog.
If WWII is more your thing, then IL2 Stromvic is now pretty easy on hardware, but the new IL2 Battle of Stalingrad is probably more taxing, as is the much modded IL2 cliffs of dover.
Although none of the IL2 series are compatible with each other -
Basically IL" cliffs of Dover was a rushed, bugged and incomplete sim, which has now been dropped, and the name sold to the poeple behind the Rise of Flight WWI sim, who have made Battle of Stalingrad on the ROF engine.
However, there is an active commnity modding Cliffs of Dover to produce the game it should have been, at the ATAC forums.

IMO modded Cliffs of Dover is superior to both ROF and Battle of Stalingrad.
If you have a PC that can push it that is.

I agree with this, I own RoF but could never get on with the way you log in etc. Reviews of il-2 BoS have been somewhat mixed so far. I will probably only buy it when it's on sale for a cheap price.
I've recently started playing CoD again with all the mods and all the horrible bugs are now gone as far as I can tell and it simply looks amazing.
Falcon 4 BMS is still going strong, but other than installing it for a quick look I've never really played it properly.
DCS gets my vote simply because you can at least try it out for free and then buy additional aircraft. If you don't have time for high fidelity sims then the Flaming Cliffs 3 add on pack is a good compromise compared to A-10C.
flight sim + g and t from sch... you know who
