MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
We are ditching our aged laptop and going back to a desktop I have spare and our iPhones/iPad.
I use the computer for storing photos (about 30gb worth!) and writing letters/spreadsheets etc. My wife also uses it for occasional photoshop work. So the PC we have is ok for that.
I've started using the Google Sheets app and I'm impressed. Not used any other apps of their but it got me wondering if I could just use Google Chrome and Photoshop on the PC and thats it. Would that work ok?
Obviously because I am now a PC dunce (didn't used to be, used to build my own back in the Win95 days, sniff) I am worried about backups of my letters/sheets etc. How does it all work? Can you keep a "local" copy of important stuff.
I'd like to be more in the cloud but I fear I have lead feet.... 😉
Can you keep a "local" copy of important stuff.
Yes just click download. But I can't remember if it will auto sync eveything like the Microsoft Version
If you use install Google Drive on the PC and use the directory set up under that, everything stored in that directory will be synced to the cloud.
You'll then be able to access everything within your Google Drive from pretty much any device, with the appropriate apps.
Using the whole G Suite set up is great - docs, sheets, slides, photos etc. Worth paying for a bigger drive account as well. 100gb costs bugger all.
It will all be synced to your phones, tablets etc and is easy enough make versions of files available offline.
Loads of really useful Chrome plug-ins as well that let you customise how they look / work.
It's all pretty good but mainly lacks full on video and photo editing software.
Yes they are good.
I stopped using Word (very rarely use Excel) a couple of years ago (even though I have an Office licence and access to a copy). Initially I used Google apps but now prefer Apple Pages (excellent). You can access these apps on the iPhone/iPad and on the PC via iCloud.com You can store docs locally or in the iCloud (or Google Docs equiv)
