We will be in touch
So i've had my iTunes library stored onto a NAS drive for a while - partly because the weeny 250GB drive on my macbook wasn't big enough and partly because I thought the NAS drive would make sharing files easier. The problem is I bought a crap NAS drive that doesn't seem to work very well with everything and is not supported!!
Anyway, I've upgraded the HDD on my Macbook to a 1TB hybrid drive so bags of space, so I want to move my files back off the NAS drive. What's the best way of doing this? I've noticed that there is a folder under the iTunes folders called "Automatically Add To iTunes". Can I just copy and paste the entire lot into this folder and let iTunes sort it all out?
When I changed out the hard drive I went down the clean install route with a Time Machine restore, but unfortunately Time Machine doesn't seem to have restored all my application settings so has limitations. With the benefit of hindsight I should have done a SuperDuper clone - I guess I could still do this by popping my old drive back in and starting again, but its nice to have a clean install.
Cheers.
Just dump the iTunes folder, off the NAS drive, into /Users/username/Music on you new Mac HD.

....depending on the library size, probably best you do the transfer over hardwired connection, rather than the wireless.
Also, make sure iTunes is not running until you have finished copying over the iTunes folder.
Thanks Jamie. I've read the link. I'm not sure what happened before but it seems that my files were somehow split between my old HDD and my NAS drive, so looks like i'll have to re-format the new drive and do a SuperDuper clone of my old drive before consolidating. Just as well as my MS Office is asking for the code to activate and I don't have it any more so hopefully cloning the old HDD will get round that problem.

Some software knows when it is mounted on a new disk. Office did that to me when I cloned my HDD on to SSD.
