I have a Karelian Bear Dog (who has a few fans on STW!). Because he's from Finland and double coated black fur our big days out mountain hiking season is autumn/winter as he runs hot.

Watching the leukemia dog post going up Pen-Y-Fan made me sad for having missed a season doing what he absolutely loves.

We did Scafell as soon as lockdown lifted this spring as I know it has a run off stream to keep dunking him in and cool him down.

Are there any other 'big days out' with a reliable summer stream or run off? Or do I stick with the beach or lowland lakes till the weather cools?

There's quite a few big walks in the lakes with rivers/tarns. Helvellyn and Langdale Pikes loops spring to mind.

It needs to be a continuous stream along most of the path, he doesn't do slow (always on a lead) and is too hot even in winter snow.

He broke the ice on Amblesides Lily Tarn and jumped in as he was red hot just walking up in there in winter.

If you go up The Calf in The Howgills via Cautley Spout you'll be in a stream or the waterfall spray for a lot of it.

Thats good to know - we've done Llanberis path and Rangers a few times but not the Watkin

If you go up The Calf in The Howgills via Cautley Spout you’ll be in a stream or the waterfall spray for a lot of it.

Thats looks good and the sort of path/hike we are looking for.

Can't help with the walks but he looks amazing. Just gained another fan but sadly not the ventilating / cooling type.

Judging by your OP I'll not bother suggesting any lower Lakes district walks! But can I just say that you seem to give that chap an awesome life 👍

I opened the thread as I thought it would be a gyll scrambling with kids thread :-(. Which is my favourites thing ever.

However there may be a slight overlap. Can't recall the name ( think its Grindsbrook Clough) directly behind Edale is a good walk up onto the plateau. We always tried to do ot in the dry to maximise scrambling ops, but if you did it after rain then I'm sure it would be deep enough almost all the way to the top.

( clearly you might need to give the mutt a lift over a couple of rock steps at the top though)

Easedale above above Grasmere has a gill running along much of the path. In fact, providing it's not too wet, scrambling up the gill is preferable to the path.

Not massive hills but Dartmoor could serve up some great walks.
You could easily have long isolated wild walks with good climbs permanently following different rivers.

You can't really go wrong with the Lakes, there are a lot of footpaths which follow gills up. Those that don't run next to them will cross them pretty regularly. Maybe up to Bowfell via Whorneyside Force and Three Tarns?

Or the Gables from Seathwaite via Sour Milk Gill. Return by Styhead Tarn & Gill

In my neck of the woods- From borrowdale, up langstrath from stonethwaite and up the beck outflowing from Angle Tarn, then across to either grains or styhead gill to descend. Up stanger gill to tarn at leaves from stonethwaite, descending rottenstone gill to coombe gill. Up dale head from little town via dale head tarn. Up hope gill to hopegill head. Tour of kirkfell via beck head tarn, ennerdale head and black sail pass.

There's little water in the high central fells- great end to scafell pike, and it's rough under foot for dogs.

Have fun!

Minffordd Path, Cader Idris up alongside Nant Cadair, you can mix/lengthen it up by doing the summit and then back around someway. I like to wander back down to the path on North shore of Tal-y-Llyn
