I have a week off in August and fancy doing a day trip somewhere from Darwen. Preferably there and back in a day.
Looking for somewhere scenic so I can take the camera. Was going to try and do Scotland but is that a bit much in a day?
Furthest I've been is Kirkby Lonsdale and back.
Any ideas?

I've never been to Scotland on my bike so can't really help with that, I can advise you not to bother coming to Essex 🙂

Yorkshire moors and coast? Friends live in Whitby and the roads that way seem popular with bikers. Note: IANABiker....

You can do Scotland and back in day but I don't think it would be as enjoyable as doing a loop up over Yorkshire Dales, across to North Yorks Moors to the coast at Whitby, down the coast and home via York. Some really good roads, which you'll get more enjoyment from with plenty of biker stops.

Here’s a route I’ve done in Yorkshire that’ll keep you busy.

Get yourself over to Otley as a start off then up past Blubberhouses to Pateley Bridge. Go up Nidderdale to Lodthouse and turn right over the moor through Leighton to Maham and turn left round to Middleham. Brew up.

From Middleham, go up through Coverdale, over and down to Kettlewell. Turn right and up to Hubberholme and then follow up Whafedale to Beckermonds where you can turn right and up over the top to Hawes. DON’T ride the ford - a friend dropped his GS in there following me last time I was there. It’s super slippery.

From Hawes North over the Buttertubs to maker and Reeth for elevenses. Turn left and up to Tan Hill Inn for a sarnie.

Form Tan Hill, go north west looking eventually for Kirby Stephen where just south of the town you turn left towards Nateby and Aisgill then turn right on A684 looking for the Garsdale train stop. It’s a bit of an awkward turn with lots of loose gravel around as you climb up and over heading next for Dent and another brew.

South East out of Dent you’re looking for a right turn on a tiny road that will take you in to Deepdale and then Kingsdale as you work your way down to Ingleton.

From there, down the main road to Settle and going in with the other bikers having ice cream from the Naked Man Cafe.

Lots of variety on that ride and one of my favourites. Enjoy!!

Rachel
