I'm posting from the departure lounge at Abidjan after a 2 week trip to Nigeria, Ghana and Ivory Coast. It's rainy season, which must explain why I can count around 35 mosquito bites all over my body including two massive ones on my bum. WTF?

They itch like hell and I've had enough, cant wait to get home to cool dry weather, a shower, clean clothes and some fresh fruit and vegetables and some exercise. Been at this rubbish airport for 5 hours and still got another 2 to go before lovely Air France takes me home.

Gaaaaaah!

Have a safe journey, and just keep thinking about the comforts you face when you get back. 🙂

Thanks!

Got home today to discover a load of big itchy blotches all over my bum and legs, definitely not mozzie bites this time... turns out I've been bitten by BED BUGS in the hotel in Abidjan.

Monday I'm going to email the owner of the place; she heeds to know about it.

Mosquito bites would be preferable to the snootty, rude, condescending 'service' from Mosquito Bikes.

Welcome home! 🙂

cant wait to get home

I got plagued by the fakers in the Camargue. it seems my immune systems is capable of a unique, florid and alarming reaction to each bite: Blisters with blisters on, or strange radiating spidery black lines, or weird purple swellings , it got to a point where passing strangers would stop and point at me and expressing horror.

Got home - into bedroom to unpack - first bag I opened 3 mosquitos fly out - couldn't find them again - but in the night they found me

I had 12 mosquito bites over two consecutive nights here in the UK around my veins on my right wrist.

Swelled up, so itchy and puss oozing out, turns out the GP said I had good blood if they were to bite and that he [s]gave[/s] sold me some Penicillin based antibiotics and anti-inflammatory tablets.

4 weeks on and I can still see red marks around my veins.
Not nice, but preferable to Nigerian Mossies I bet.

European mozzies are much bigger than African ones, which are so tiny that they can be hard to see at all. European mozzie bites are usually massive but at least they can't give you malaria.

I contracted scabies whilst in Hong Kong ten years ago. Sounds similar. Blotches mainly on legs and between the fingers and toes. My knees itched the worst. For a few days whilst undergoing treatment i almost wished my legs were cut off above the knee. Nevermind, I am sure there is a silver lining to this cloud somewhere.

Make sure you haven't brought any of those bad bugs home!! I read something about isolating all laudry and clothes you are wearing and wash hot. Even read about people getting rid of suitcases/bags.

But then, not from personal experience (so far, fingers crossed it will stay that way).

take care...
