We will be in touch
So the authorised Worchester bosch guy came over and said it's going to be about £2600 to replace the boiler for a Greenstar 34CDi Classic he said it could get closer to 16/ litres a minute than the stated 14. (so I'm assuming its at 35 degrees).
Thats including a complete flush but as far as installations go it's as easy as it gets for them apparently.
It all sounded pretty good but I've got nest and been reading on how modern boilers make the most out of their effectiveness (by not turning on and off often but keeping constant)... or is this not classed as a modern boiler in that sense as its just powered with gas?
boiler is £1200 inc vat online so thats £1400 for a days fitting and expertise plus £85 a year for their servicing to keep the 10 year warranty over the standard 5...
Just cost more than my bike so... its pretty daunting just for a improved hot water flow!
Hmm
I'm gonna have to chip in as i always do on these boiler threads but that fitting cost is a piss take!
so thats £1400 for a days fitting
WTF!
Whereabouts are you?
South Lakes / Cumbria
That sounds a bit steep. I guess he'll be fitting a Worcester filter to get that 10 year warranty as well which is another £120-150 on materials.
Get another few quotes. Installers will always quote on what they are used to and Worcester are top end. See if you can get a price for an Ideal Vogue. If the boiler is in a utility room look at Baxi as well, I say this because they are bloody noisy and not something you'd want in the kitchen.
Also, a service should be about £60 a year not £85.
Lakes too far from Midlands unfortunately, have a good friend who is a gas registered plumber.
It's in the garage so loads of space for it and flue exits out the wall behind it. Sub 20 year old property so neat piping and plastic pipes all around the house.
Wasn't massively surprised but was hoping it'd have been closer to 2k.
so £1260 labour roughly if they work an 8 hour day and I think he implied it'd be more like a half day... so somewhere between £150-300 / hour then!
Ideal and Baxi were low on the "Which" list I believe? Are they a decent recommendation then?
Alexx.. I live in the north west & have a home in Windermere we charge 285 day rate plus expenses to install Worcester product. you buy it we fit it keeps it vat free and simple for me.
we give a 5 year warranty ( worcesters std. warranty. you need a proper filter , we use Fernox tf1 plus chemicals ( circa 100 depending on special offers) you d normally expect to use 50-70 of materials , fittings pipe, solder, flux etc etc.
if your current boiler is still working dont do a cold power flush fill it with cleanser and let it run for a week.. hot water cleans better than cold!
all in well under 2k.. well under.
Legend - can you email me as you don't have one in your profile! that sounds much more promising 🙂
oops double post

I'm presuming you mean opentherm enabled? I'm sure that the boiler will be, but you usually have to buy the gubbins to enable it.
I had an Ideal Vogue installed earlier this year with 10 year warranty. They had a bad rep 10 years ago which has stuck, but I was assured by a few people in the trade that the new generation Vogue was very good .
Here you go,
The 3rd-generation Nest Thermostat fully supports this language, which enables it to control OpenTherm-compatible heating and domestic hot water systems. With OpenTherm, the Nest Thermostat can control both your boiler's domestic hot water temperature, as well as the temperature of the water used to heat your home.
If you haven't got 3rd gen Nest, then you might only have to replace the relay box at the boiler. I looked into it with my Evohome/Ideal Vogue, but didn't bother.

We paid £3200 for a complete swap from non-combi boiler to Combi (Vaillant EcoTech Pro 28) plus fitting of a Nest.
Was a two day job and not straightforward and the chap did a first class job with all relevant paperwork etc emailed through without a fuss.
Not the cheapest we could have found but not outrageous either.
£2600 for a straight swap does sound a bit pricey
*adds plumbing to list of qualifications needed*
Seriously 3200 is nuts also!
Thanks Banana! glad I started this thread!

We went for the 42CDI so we could get the best flow possible. It will run two showers adequately or one shower with loads of pressure. It didn't cost much extra IIRC.
I'm pretty sure we have the 34cdi classic. Think we paid about £2800 all in for new boiler in the garage (old boiler was a back boiler from the 60's.. located behind fireplace) and new radiators and pipework for the whole house, so aye £2800 is steep for a simple swap.
In terms of getting a higher rated boiler as above (for running mutliple showers etc.) it also depends on your cold water pressure into the house.. this is the limiting factor for us as it's shite! So getting something more powerful wouldn't have had any gains.
So it is just a case of buying the new boiler and banging it on?
New boiler £1200.
Flue £85.
Programmer? £75 for the internal, double that for rf stat version.
Worcester mag filter £120.
Chemicals £30.
Pipe and fittings? That depends on a few things. Very rarely is it just a straight swap. Old boiler may have 15mm gas supply? Needs to be 22mm now, where is the nearest 22mm gas pipe? Presuming the old boiler is non condensing, is there a waste pipe nearby for the new condensate pipe? £70-£300 for materials.
Electrician to wire boiler? £35 upwards
£285 per man/ 2 men 1 day £570
Is the installer VAT reg and is that quote including VAT?
Should i mention profit on materials?
Anyone know Totalshell? His email isn't in the profile and I'd like to get in touch with him to fit my new boiler?! 🙂
HNY all.
