I have a 2001 Zetec Mondeo Estate. Been driving since 2006, three years no claims (didn't have a car for the first year), just been quoted 650 quid from swiftcover for my renewal. Seems a bit expensive.

No claims (either by me or against me), but I did reverse into a truck a year or so ago and told the insurance company about it (DVLA tow truck, oh the irony).

So can anyone recommend a broker? I've tried the gocompare etc, and they're all much of muchness...

PS. I'm 29, so I presume i'm past the boy racer insurance premiums? Plus it's a 10 year old estate FFS...

I'm 44, have 25 years without an insurance claim and pay £250 on a 5 year old diesel people carrier with max NCD.

my experience is that this whole 'it gets cheaper as you get older' is b*ll*cks the insurance companies use to get young people to pay an arm and a leg in the hope they won't have to in the future.

Try RAC or eSure. Was paying about £450 for my old Mondeo (5 year old ST TDCI, 30 years old with 6 years NCB).

Seriously, try the price comparison websites, GoCompare etc.

I have a scooter which cost us £120 F/C for the 2 of us last year which I thought was as cheap as I'd ever get it. Mrs PP got that down to about £75 with Go Compare.....!

I moved from swift cover to Hastings direct earlier this year as swift cover wanted over £550 to insure a 53 plate 1.4 polo comprehensive cover 4 years NCB protected. With Hastings it came to a little under £350, they were the cheapest I could find at the time.

One other thing, check your Swift cover policy, when I turned 25 and was insured with them they gave me an additional years NCB.

Go to Chris Knott 0800 9172274 ask for a quote stating you saw their add on the Mondeo Euth Group website.
Hopefully you will have a pleasant surprise.

Just a thought is it a 2l 130 TDCi some insurers see them as being a bit sporty.

Cheers
Paul

Will follow up on the above. Having now looked into it, i noticed that my insurance last year from swiftcover was 100 quid less than their renewal quote (with another years NCB!).

Email dispatached to them basically saying W. T. F.

if you've only been driving for 4 years the you will still be a high risk.

I'm 30, been driving for 12 years, group 16 sportyish car, 4 years NCB £275 fully comp. It's only been the last 3-4 years that my insurance has been under a grand!

I'm with Admiral, they've been good for me for the last 3 years.

Tell em you've had a quote for a load cheaper elsewhere. That usually does the trick.

Got my insurance down significantly by asking my current insurers, Direct Line, to price match, and they did. Now paying about 300€ fully comp.

Definately call around, Chris Knott are particularly good. Also dont rule out Admiral/Elephant, I've been with them for years, had a few claims between me and the missus and they've been great with us and good customer service.

For comparison, I'm 28 and with Admiral, have insured a new Nissan 370z with 15k busines miles for not much more than you've been quoted 😯 The missus 59 plate Ibiza was well under 500 quid with 10k business miles too.

Chris - just for comparison, how long have you been driving?

Tesco's appear to be cheapest so far, but still 50 quid more than my renewel last year!

Always worth a looking at the cash back sites for an extra bit of discount - Quidco etc.

Old gits get the best prices = myself at 45 under £200 fully comp on a 10 year old V70 - petrol turbo.

+1 for Oldgits and cheap insurance

£260 for comp+business cover on a 535i parked on the street 😀

You need to play with lots of sites, and lots on options to get the best price for the cover you need - and don't lie, its just not worth it.

Plenty of good advice above - best thing to do is work through the Money Saving Expert guide which is the most effective step-by-step way of covering all the bases. I've done it for the last couple of years and taken over £100 off my premium each time.

The quote from Tesco on my Alfa GT shot up to about £600 from £450 - changed to Aviva for about £300 fully comp protected no-claims.

I'm 32, 7 years NCB, 1 non-fault claim in last 4 years, driving 11 years, 3 points until earlier this year. Insuring my 2001 Mondeo Zetec (2.0 petrol, 145bhp) was £400 for fully comp, 20k business miles per year, with Elephant. I've been with them for ages. They always match or better other quotes at renewal time.

Ewan - we have almost the same driving history, age and car. £300 on Admiral for me.

I am with Aviva. I pay about £450 for fully comp protected no claims on an Audi 2.0T FSI Quattro. Previous year it was a bit higher perhaps £550.

I had been with Zurich for years, who I really rated but they wanted to penalise me heavily at my next renewal after a very expensive claim so I switched.

Direct Line, Liverpool Victoria and Aviva were all pretty much in the same ball park as Aviva. More Than were cheaper and kept calling me god knows how many times, but they would not honor my protected no claims following my previous expensive claim

The only issue I have with Aviva is that I have in effect two excesses. A smaller one if I use their recommended garage or a higher one if I choose where I want the car to be repaired. Not too keen on this since I would always want to choose where my car was repaired.

you lot should think yourselves lucky! in the last 12 months i've racked up 9 points and had a full claim that was my fault. i've now got 2ync left and cannot get fully comp for less than a grand unless i go for a 1.0 shoebox of a car thats as old as the hills!

Dont talk to me about car insurance...!

Just had my renewal through. Was £290 last year with First Direct which was my cheapest yet. I'm 28, driving for 10 years, 6 years no clamims. My renewal is now £477 😯

Going on there website I can get a new quote for £430 which is better (and stupid) but I'm quite reluctant to pay more than last year given I haven't made any claims.

No wonder so many people dont bother with insurance, its a crippling cost that for me seems to increase each year I dont claim.

I end up staying with Admiral each time, still check on price comparison sites though (not Go Compare though as long as that fat **** keeps singing in the adverts...) and ask them to price match the lowest, for some reason last year they even bettered the lowest price.

Couple of things that can help is limiting your mileage allowance (mines at 10k per year which is plenty for me) and getting a second driver (low risk) on the policy (parents etc.).

Hastings Direct for me, again on a Mondeo estate (10 yr old car), came up at about £320 when everyone else wanted nearly £500.

Full NC, car parked on private road, no breakdown cover required either which knocks a fair bit off.

drinkmoreport

Possibly we'd prefer it if you were 'priced' off the road, but the logical side of me tells me that if insurance is too high, drivers will drive without it..., although it is easy now to catch these through the linked systems, whereas in 'my day' it relied on a copper pulling you and checking.

tbh 'though I now find that comp is cheaper than TP/TPFT, especially on older/'performance' cars

04 Mondeo 2.0 tdci 130ps. 36, 6 years no claims, parked on drive. £150 excess.

£480 was the cheapest I could get.

Dont forget where you live plays a massive part in how much you pay. Unfortunately living in a Bradford postcode premiums are stupid due to the amount of theft/uninsured drivers in the area.

Weird thing is I used to live in a more dodgy area of Sheffield and the premium was over £100 cheaper for a soft top 2 seater sports car parked on the street over night!

If you can, put a female driver on the policy as a named driver, usually knocks a bit off.

45, driving 19 years, 10 years+ without a claim, clean licence.
57 plate Saab 9-3 TiD (150) Sportwagon in Vector Sport trim with AXA < £300.

And that's in a Bradford postcode - although I'm told BD1-9 is much more expensive than BD10 and beyond.

If I don't include my wife the quote goes up to £450+

john - how strange, you live (I think) about 4 streets down from me. My wife pays similar to me for a 59 plate Seat Altea XL 140ps diesel. Perhaps insurers just dont like us! (even though both clean liecences etc)

I think that insurance has gone up overall this year - maybe because of large numbers of claims last winter.
I'm fairly happy if I can keep the insurance the same as last year.
