We have a very poor mobile signal at home (all networks are equally bad) but as we get wireless broadband we could do without a phone line to the house if we could reliably boost our mobile signals. Does anyone have any experience of the Ebay type signal boosters ? Any recommendations please ?

If you have a Vodafone contract and phones they do one called Sure Signal works very well.

I have a direct from China active GSM booster. It's done the job fine for 2.5 years so far. I was fiddling in the attic yesterday and managed to disconnect the aerial - no signal in the house until I'd re-attached it. Worthwhile if you're on a network that doesn't do pico cells i.e. Vodafone.

Drac, sure signal needs a phone line (according to Vodafone yesterday).

I'm pretty sure that this "Sure Signal" thing is what is referred to as a pico-cell. And it needs to be connected to home broadband (ADSL / cable with typically an Ethernet connection) which requires a phone line (if ADSL).

It basically turns your mobile into a voice over ip phone .... clever stuff.
