Anyone recommend a mobile phone unlock site on the web?

Have you found yourself with a few new phones that for some reason need unlocking?

Don't bother. Unless it's an old phone it can't be done easily without the help of your operator, and you're going to be trawling through the dodgy side of Internetville for weeks, picking up heaven knows what on the way.

It apparently is free on Orange if you are out of contract. Otherwise they quoted me £20 and 2 weeks for my Orange 5800 recently.

Even the seedy websites charge for it though. Apparently some are genuine - you need a really expensive machine to do it so only either good places that justifiably charge or the networks have it.

What phone - many newer phones can't be done by websites, need a local mobile phone shop with special electronic boxes or to ask the operator for the code.

There are loads of websites that claim to sell unlock codes for impossible to unlock phones, big scam, would always get something unlocked in person if not getting code from the network.

The phones on display in carphone warehouse aren't real phones so unless you managed to get into the store room at the back...don't bother.

My Orange Sanfranciscos less than a year old - there are googleable unlock programs free for that.

I'd head over to modaco.com - its a top place for phone help.
