Anyone have one? Any good?
I've a reasonably large lawn that's not either flat or level and has lots of obstacles.
I've a venerable old boy of a mower. A 5hp Harry. He's a big lad and takes some moving.
He's also needing a new blade, belts, cables and the pull start looking at. The Decks also battered.
So I think he's done his time and I want a new mower I've seen some mulcher ones, 26kg which is better than 40kg on a hyundai model I saw.
Any one any recommendations?
Honda 537. I bought mine second hand for a few hundred quid. It requires occasional bike level bodgery to clutch cables, freewheels and blades but she does the job great on similar grass to yours and can do a job mulching. Having said that I'm just looking at no mow may....
Scythe exercise and grass cutting.
No messing with engines, reliable, ideal for meadows.
I’d def recommend a mulching mower. Best to get a dedicated one rather than one that is multifunction as these don’t mulch as well. I’ve had a Stiga one for 10 years, well priced and it’s been awesome.
I've a mulching mower. They're great much less faff than collectors. Can't recommend a small one as mines a ride on. Husky 216awd is recommended if you are after a big mower tho...
Slight deviation
Do mulching mowers end up spreading weeds? I’ve used one since moving to our house. When we got the house there were zero weeds in the lawn, now loads tk the point I’ve had to start treating with chemicals
Is that the downside of mulching?
Do mulching mowers end up spreading weeds?
Yes is the answer. When I looked into a mulching mower one line sticks in my mind:
If you have a weed problem, a mulching mower will make it worse.

Doesn't sound like you need it for playing football or bowls. Why not just reduce the amount of mowed lawn? add some wildflower seeds and let a significant chunk of it go more natural. Then you just need to mow a few paths through it, which can be done with a smaller, battery mower. Less work for you and better for wildlife.
I've already got big borders of wild flowers and several veg plots.
I'm also surrounded by farm land and have a lot of hedges so I'm pretty happy with how it's wildlife friendly.
The objects are trees and fruit bushes.
I do have a weed problem. But I'm of the opinion if its green its near enough a lawn for me!
Have you thought about a robot mower? Some specialize for steep slopes and they automatically mulch the lawn. Take quite a bit to set up but once done just need to keep an eye on keeping them clean of grass/mud build up.
I'd love to but I don't think they'd be suitable unfortunately
Couldn't you just get Geoff a harness and a wee mower? 😁
Should just get a goat tbh
