Is there now a daily limit on the amount of messages you can send?

Trying to buy something out of classified @ singletrackmonkey

@Mark - it might be worth saying that in the message that says the limit has been reached, because this has come up a few times on the forum now. It'd also be worth removing the press enter to send function so the limit isn't reached by saying "hi", a couple of paragraphs and a sign off that would otherwise be a single message.

^ munrobiker has a couple of good points there.  The use of 'return' to send rather than as a carriage return must be especially annoying when you find you only have five messages to complete your business.

Maybe messages connected to ads could be excluded from the limit?  Possibly a perk of having a paid classified if every penny counts as sellers must sometimes wonder where their prospective buyer went

That return to send is a massive PITA.  I always forget and instinctively hit return for a line or para break turning one message into 3 or 4.

The number of messages doesn’t bother me in this context, as I’m a member, but there are other occasions when I’ve been sending a message, hit return, as one does, and had the message sent, which is bloody stupid coding, or just sheer laziness in not putting in an actual ‘Send’ button.

Not on this forum, I hasten to add!

Enter==send in so many messaging applications, and it's such a stupid design choice.

Facebook is especially perverse in this.  If you're composing a new post then Enter functions as anyone who isn't a complete sociopath would expect and Ctrl-Enter is the shortcut to submit post.  However it you're replying to an existing post it's the other way around, Enter posts and Ctrl-Enter adds a carriage return.

Shift and return puts you on another line, but yes it's stupid and annoying. 🤬

I'm usually a paid up member so don't see the issues non paying members see, but I'm skint at the moment and my sub has lapsed. I get what they are moaning about now...

Selling a few bits and bobs and sent 2 messages to some one buying something this morning and now can't send them the bloody tracking details as I've reached my limit!!

Bunch of Arse!

I've asked Tech to look at if we can change anything to let you hit return without sending the message.

I've sent two messages today and hit the limit. Is this a glitch? @cycus I can't reply to your message 🫣

Except when it's some other arbitrary limit - I've had days go by when I've been unable to respond to messages because I've "exceeded my limit" and usually it's taken less than 5 messages to trigger that.

The fact this is a feature on paid ads is also a bit annoying.

Edit - this was supposed to be quoting the "non-members 5 a day" post but for some reason the quote function hasn't.

This sort of nonsense is one of the reasons I’m not a paid up member anymore.

Paid up members don't have a limit on messages though...good of you to stand with those that have the limit and have that yourself as well.

(Aware you've said one of the reasons you are no longer paying a subscription)

It’s not the limit, it’s the fact that it doesn’t apply consistently because of technical glitches etc Paid up members get the same nonsense - ads showing when they shouldn’t, abysmal site performance, getting logged out or whatever else is listed in the new forum thread.

I'm sure I was blocked after two messages before Christmas, it's definitely not five. And return was still send in January.
