Hi is there some sort of one line equivalent to Farnell /RS components / CPC for the UK with a wide stock of gears, pulleys, couplers, fasteners, small mechanical components e.t.c I found http://www.sdp-si.com/index.asp but it is US based.

I use Misumi a lot for aluminium frame work. For pulleys etc they are not that cheap.
Try Beltingonline and Bearingboys
RS are sometimes not bad for pulleys and belts.
Also try DIY 3D printer type online stores.
