Hello

The McAfee antivirus/firewall on my pc is about to expire and I'm not sure I want to renew it as at times its just as much of a pita as Norton was and has failed to do its job a couple of occasions.

So whats the protection of choice these days ?

AVG and Avast used to be good a few years ago but is there anything better ? Free software is preferable but I don't mind paying if its worth it, any reccomendations appreciated.

Thank you

+1 for MS Security Essentials, I used to use AVG but switched a year or so ago.

Don't try and use anything else at the same time, they rarely play nicely together.

+1 for MSE and Malwarebytes

I always used to recommend AVG but it's almost as bloated as McAfee these days. Avast is a bit better

I use MSE and Sophos.

Not on the same machine I hope.

Predictably, another +1 for MSE here. Just make sure you fully remove McAfee first.

Thnks guys

It seems that MS Security Essentials it is then, already have Malwarebytes and Spybot.

Just make sure you fully remove McAfee first

No uninstall button so will be going add/remove programs and how much of a fight is it going to put up in getting rid of it, Norton was a nightmare to remove.
