Marco Polo to St Marks Square transfer.

Went for our 25th wedding anniversary 10 years ago. Used a water taxi which took about 30 minutes. Not cheap but I'm worth it 

Easiest? Taxi from the airport to the main ferry staging area then a gondola if feeling flush or one of the local ferries/water bus or walk if you have a real aversion to water 😉

You can’t not arrive in Venice by boat. If it’s not the law it should be!

I’ve been twice. Both times we took the scheduled water bus from the airport. Sailing up the entrance of the Grand Canal to St Marks Sq is a proper experience.

(also efficient getting around Venice is all by boat, so get used to it early!)

You can get the bus from outside the airport terminal. There are ticket machines in the main concourse and loads of airport helpers outside to point you to the correct bus. At the bus station in Venice buy your travel pass for the water buses and get on the next water bus to your destination.

Online timetable seems to show a bus every 10 or 15 mins on line 1 from Marco Polo to the Lido via St. Marks square. All the drama of water approach at a believable price.

On the map there’s a line that says A. I can’t see it on any of Slowol’s timetables.

If you are prone to seasickness, is it too late to suggest Venice may not be the idyllic destination you were hoping for?

Pick up your day pass from the airport, its approx10 euros cheaper than on line, always good service in my experience - you will take red or blue line to st marks - just over an hour I suspect

Follow signs from the ticket counter - about 10 mins walk inside to the 'marina bit' slightly bigger boats on this journey and oftenn full with tourists but its the best way

Venice is a delight in so many ways but take time to check out the lovely Lido di Venezia - around 6pm for a stroll around

Mrs Rock and I loved Venice, would definitely go back.

Being from Yorkshire, we got the shuttle bus from the airport. Cheaper init. Turns out Mrs R wasn’t great on the water buses across the potentially choppy open areas of the lagoon, as we found out going across to Murano.  It didn’t help that we were below deck, it was a tad claustrophobic and a bit fumy.  We would walk it next time.

Ordinary road bus or taxi to Piazzale Roma, not very romantic though. ATVO are allegedly less basic than ACTV buses. Buy bus tickets at the airport; it doesn't take long to get used to the public transport system and you can walk within the lagoon area if you feel a bit wobbly

The Alilaguna ferry is an airport option, but it's a boat! It'll probably get you closer to your hotel in a single trip than anything bar a water taxi, hauling suitcases along narrow paths and hump-backed bridges isn't romantic, so look at the directions given by your hotel

Water bus (vaporetto) to get around. Water taxis are expensive and as slow as anything else in the lagoon, but they're quick in the open water to get to and from the airport, you probably wouldn't like them either 🙂

If just going for a short period, take a rucksack not a wheely case.  Venice is all steps up and down bridges and it gets dull pretty quickly carrying a wheely case up and down them.

I’ve been to vein ice a couple of times and did not take any water taxis. There are buses which run from the airport to the bus centre at the edge of the pedestrian area. It was an easy walk from there from memory.
