what's wrong with a pony? Did the conductor have enough change?
Perhaps he was a cockney and was protesting about how poor public transport is in some parts of the country.
He's walked into the local 'O'neils' pub before now with the same pony and tried to buy It a pint.

Can't see an issue if there's enough room in a mail van. Can't see it being much fun in a passenger carriage though!
