Iain has been the leader of the mountain bike section of the Huddersfield Star Wheelers cycling club for a number of years.  He ran and organised the popular Saturday rides across Kirklees and Calderdale.  Earlier this year however he suffered a devastating spinal cord injury whilst out riding and is now facing life changing injuries as a result.

His family are trying to raise money to help adapt his home in order to help him come home and regain some independence.  Please check out his fundraising page and if you are feeling generous please donate and help a rider who's worked hard to promote mountain biking in his local area.

I used to ride the Star Wheelers' time trials as a teenager, and head to the Nook after for a beer (it's a wonder I ever got OK at racing...). They were always wonderfully inclusive events. I don't know Iain but I've chucked some cash in.

This thread is one of the reasons that STW is worth every penny and worth defending to the hilt. If you’re in trouble, need advice or just a chat, there’s always someone on here who can help.

After last year watching an ex-colleague suffer after a stroke and witnessing how poor the safety net is in Britain now, even The Firefighters Charity was poor, it would be good for the STW community to help surpass the target.

Well done @dthom3uk for caring.

@dthom3uk hope you don’t mind me bumping this again but I’ve just had an update. Iain is home now but will require a wheelchair for which there is a long waiting list. Perhaps the STW community can dig in for a pre-Christmas boost?

@tjagain I have no involvement with this fundraising apart from trying to keep it going on this forum, according to the update that I received today from gofund me, an electric wheelchair is required but the NHS wait is two years. @dthom3uk might know more.

Good to see you again on here tj, have you been hibernating?

Heartbreaking to hear. People like Iain who dedicate time to building local riding communities are the backbone of the sport. Donated
