Anyone do this? I'm considering a change of tack. I'd say a change of career but I don't really have a career to change.
General advice and pointers and what not would be nice. I'm just going down the unpaid route at present.
Not really concerned with earning lots of money(although I'd like to be able to pay the bills), or doing something that in itself is very interesting. What matters is to actually believe in what I'm doing.
Piemonster - If you want to drop me an mail (address in profile) I'll put you in touch with my better half. She has worked in the charity sector in various guises for years and can give you some good advice.
I don't suppose you need telling, but the reality of Daves Big Society Wheeze is charities being absolutely starved of funding as local authorities slash budgets, but still need essential services supplying. Thus turning to the charity sector to provide said services, but not get payed for it.
So be under no illusion, its really really tough out there at the moment! If you believe in what you're doing you'll generally end up working about twice the hours you're actually paid/contracted for! That's what the Big Society really means. But hey ho! Dave and his millionaire chums get taxed less, so its all worth it
nice sentiment , but charities are papering over the cracks in the welfare state more and more, with great encouragement from Govt, so you pay no vat, reduced rates, tax breaks, there has been a huge increase in registered charities--all those stinking rich public schools are such !-- housing associations ...
unless you are doing something local and specific its hard not to get tainted ----
Cheers for that Binners, I'll fire over an email shortly
Yeh, thanks Dave for 'Big Society'
Zero Government (or lottery) funding involved with the peeps I'm volunteering with. And it's very specific and Scotland only.
