Is this a thing? I have external an lighting circuit (5 amps) with a standard double 3 pin external socket. I want to be able to occasionally plug in a high powered light so my kids can play outside in the dark months. I do have external lighting but it is more ambient than 'instant daylight'. I was kinda thinking halogen spotlight type of light but something I can just plug in as and when I want to use it, then put away later.
I guess I could just get a halogen spotlight and put a plug on it as an option?

I did this once for a low budget short film I was making. They get incredibly (dangerously) hot. LED would probably be slightly better, even then you'll want it as far away from the kids as possible.
Sorry, I should have said I would like the solution to be waterproof so I can just leave it out if I wanted.
TBH you're probably better off wiring up some 50 or 100w led floodlights as you'll need the lights to be elevated to cast any real light.
just get a motion sensor PIR and switch it off when you dont want it
