My 2008 macbook pro won't turn on. You press the power button, the cd drive makes a noise, an led comes on and then it turns off. No display on the screen, no chimes, no error messages.

I've left it charging, I've reset the SMC with and without the battery and left the battery out for a few hours, but no joy ๐Ÿ™

Is it goosed?

There was a warranty extension for some MBP (Santa Rosa, graphics packing in). Apple were replacing logic boards even out of warranty. Might be worth checking if that applies to you?

Do you not even get the grey screen? Have you tried connecting an external monitor?

Sounds like the logic board has had it (more or less exactly what my 2007 MBP did).

Take it to the Apple store and get them to have a look?

I had an issue with mine a months or so ago and itwas a Hard Drive issue rather than anything else wrong with it. I got a bootable cd of linux Mint that I used to boot the computer so I knew it was almost certainly the hard drive that failed. Bought a new SSD and that sorted that.

It's something to try if you can as installing an SSD has made a massive difference to the preformance of the machine.

Nope, get nothing, not even a flicker.
