MBP, 13", 2 usb port, 3 months old. Typically used one port for a wireless mouse (one nearest screen), and it's suddenly stopped working completely - no sign of it in finder. Haven't done anything dodgy to the laptop! Have tried Google and done a PRAM and SMC reset but no joy.

I guess I can go into Apple store, but it's not convenient at all to do so, and I need the laptop for work (self employed) so can't really do without. Any other possible fixes?

Cheers

Do other USB devices (e.g. flash drives) work in the port?

Does the wireless mouse receiver work in the other USB ports?

Ye[p - mouse works with the other port; flash drives don't work in the bad port, but do in the good port.

Have you tried this? worth a go. High power drain can disable a USB port temporarily.

I think I had this temporarily a long time ago. USB port froze out. A reset worked for me though. Was a bit of a wobbly moment right enough.

Might be worth seeing if the Apple Store can fix it on the spot (book an appointment). Otherwise, sending it away is an option - turnaround if you have cover is great, no hassles there. But as you say, no laptop.

Can you borrow one?

I guess a backup m/c is always a good idea to have, if it is your livelihood (as it is mine) then you have to cover for breakdown / loss / accidents in any case...

good luck.

Same thing happened to my Air. Took it to the Apple store and they said it was caused by a power drain and to try the reset if it did it again (it hasn't luckily).
