tried to get my macbook - 1920 x 1200 resolution - to work on an 800 x 600 pj last night, signal and everything working fine, problem was my laptop screen suddenly went to 'jumbo text mode' - everything was way to big for screen... 😕
Adjusted the screen resolution in system preferences which worked - for about 10 seconds - please let me know what I need to change (don't say the pj - its not mine ...
ta.

Is the screen in "Screen spanning mode" or mirrored?!

Screen spanning your laptop normal size and the projecter is shown as extra screen to the right of your primary screen - this mode will support different resolutions (so no jumbo text on your laptop screen)

Mirrored is What you see on your laptop screen is the same on the projector you can't have two diffent resultions in this mode they must be matching. So sadly jumbo text!

cheers Steve - how do I change the setting though - can't see anything in System Preferences / Screens.
currently running the 17"macbook, lonked to 23" cinema screen on the desk, I recall having to set up that connection but can't recall where (in preferences?) or how?

Or, is it a case of the mac ain't seeing the projector as its not connected now, therefore not giving me the option to change?
Cheers
Chris

The options will only appear while the projector is connected. I think you'd need to set your screen res to 800x 600, then connect the projector. I use an old G3 iMac where I was working, screen at 1024x768, connect everything up, then turn it all on. Never an issue. That's with a VGA connector. Possible that the mini-DVI from the Mac is not playing nice with the projector? Is the projector VGA, and are you using the Mini-DVI to VGA adaptor thingy?

And is 800x600 the highest res the projector will go to? That's pretty low, is it an old one?

1920x1200 is pretty bloody high. Plus, it's a wide-screen ratio. 800x600 is 4:3. Maybe that is causing issues?

plug in projector then go to the screen icon in settings

you can un-check a box for mirror displays (i think it's in the second tab)

you can then go to the little screen icon on the top nav bar and select separate resolutions for each (the lcd and the projector)

the output will probably default to 800x600 anyway, it's a habit that macs have.

it should give you an option to keep settings with a timer although i used a power mac today that never gave you that option
