So I've not had this Mac long and have only just discovered Automator. With the Mac not being as intuitive as all the Mac geeks like to have you believe, I require some help. Is anyone on here an expert with automator? Specifically for doings things with images files and iphoto.

Thanks in advance...

I use Automator now and again - what are you trying to achieve?

ok so this may be long winded...

I want to try and make iphoto work for my needs although being use to and wanting something more like Lightroom that watches folders and supports a user's folder structure, I'm not sure the dumbed down ness of iphoto will be for me.

My image archive folder structure is year - month - day + description. I use nikon transfer to download images from my camera which are RAW files and often the duplicated JPEGs. I like it because I can create a new folder for day + description and it renames all files to yymmdd_****_**. I then want a script that runs automatically that does the following:

If duplicated JPEGS are present, create a new folder within day+decription called JPEGs and move them into it.
import remaining RAW files (i.e. not the JPEGS that are now in the sub folder) into iphoto creating a new event name equal to the title of the day+description folder.
clean my bike.

Is this possible?

This will be possible with the combination of Automator and Apple Script. Unfortunately, I'm not au fait with either of these technologies to be able to rattle something off for you: you'll need to learn it yourself or buy Lightroom for Mac.
