Driving down to Essex this evening/tonight. Once I'm out of Scotland I can carry on down the M6 or go across the A66. A66/A1 is 30 miles shorter. Not seeing anything particularly ominous on the weather forecasts. Any reason not to take the A1? I prefer it as the A66 breaks up the monotony of the Motorway a bit.

I would always go the A66 but no idea what the snow conditions are like there at the moment, there's no snow gates on the M6 ๐Ÿ™‚ A66 is the slower option though.

I assume the motorway will be prioritised if there is any snow too. Oh well, boring old M6 it is.

Just spoke to my brother who has done A66 Teesside to Penrith in the last couple of hours, says roads are clear and good, nothing but a flurry of snow in Doncaster on the A1 and that didin't stick. West side forecast worse than east, use the A1.

If this mornings 9 hour session on the a14 is anything to go by, I'd use the A1 if I were you.
Reports of multiple accidents in the midlands today due to the adverse weather.

Got to Penrith and the sky was clear as could be so went A66. Roads have been faultless tonight have to say.
