Tomorrow I'm off up North seeing family. I will be getting on the M1 at the end of the M42 and heading up to the North East (M1,M18,A1). Ideally leaving about 2pm
Now I know the M6 is off limits after Noon on a Friday, is the M1 the same? (very rarely use it)

I come off the M42 at the A5 junction then go A38 via Burton and Derby.

The M1 will be fine at this time of year - now all the kids have stopped driving to School, the traffic has died down. I do Sheffield to Leeds daily and it's 20 minutes faster in Summer. Plus once you hit the M18 it'll be clear as nobody likes Lincolnshire!
A38 usually jams up at Markeaton fwiw.
M1 at that time will be fine, barring accidents, and once you get past Tibshelf services you probably wont even hit any slow traffic.
