About 2 months ago I tweaked my back in a specific spot, last night on a downhill bit of the ride I went off a very small drop off (wheels on the ground at all times) and ouch it went spang. Touching toes is painful and it aches today.

Should I get one of those big balls 😯 (easy at the back) or can anyone recommend some strenthening exercises.

I sometimes think physios are the most unreasonable people.

Along comes somebody with a back problem that is perfectly easy to diagnose over the web, but will they offer advice? No, it's all "I need to do a proper examination" or "I'll send you for a scan".

Just tell him to take an aspirin and do some back bends on a Swiss ball.

Ice (but not in contact with the skin) is best during the first 72 hours) then heat/cold whichever feels more comfortable. Avoid long periods of inactivity, just keep moving/resting.

To get some mobility back, do some easy stretches (loads on the Internet).

As your mobility improves, do some core excercise again there are loads on the net.

Long term, try to concentrate on alternating your leading leg/foot. Most cycling back pains are caused by muscle imbalance and most people always lead with the same foot on non-pedally descents. This results in one leg that is made of steel and similarly inflexible while the other leg is just there for the ride. Hello back pain.

If it persists, get a back pain professional to examine it.
